View Vacancy - Deputy Communications Officer
Main purpose of job:
To act as Deputy Head of Press, supporting the Head of Press Section to promote the UK as an excellent political and commercial partner for Colombia working proactively to promote the British Embassy activities and initiatives in the Colombian media across all policy areas.
The job holder will lead the communication and digital strategy for the Embassy according to UK priorities and Embassy activities in Colombia, increasing their impact and promotion.
Roles and responsibilities:
Strategic and Digital Communications
- Lead the digital strategy according to the UK government priorities in Colombia aligned with the Embassy’s external communications strategy.
- Improve the Embassy’s digital footprint and impact on social networks through increasing number of followers, influencers, and creative campaigns.
- Support the Embassy’s communications work on global campaigns like Global Britain. Design and implement follow up reports, creating digital and press material
- Lead the Internal Communications strategy across the Embassy, engaging the Comms Champions from all sections.
- Integrate the internal and external strategies.
- Improve execution of regular actions such as newsletters as well as the creative implementation of new comms materials.
Deputise Comms
- Deputise for the Head of Press in specific initiatives and tasks when the latter is out of the office or on leave. This could include leading the Press team, and organising press conferences, interviews and media coverage.
- Build and maintain a strong network of journalists in the Colombian media to increase the impact of Embassy communications.
Other
- Line management of 1 x Press and Digital Assistant 1 x intern.
- Administrative tasks as required
- Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent)
- At least 2 years experience in digital communications and social media
- At least 2 years experience in Internal and External communications
- Fluent writing skills in English and Spanish
- Proven track record of excellent team work and communications skills
- Google analytics experience
- Audiovisual edition and design (i.e Adobe suite management)
- Networking in national media outlets
- 14 public holidays per year
- 15 days annual leave plus 4 compensatory days pro-rata on first year
- 15 days salary in December pay and 15 days salary in June pay (pro rata in first year).
