Main purpose of job:

 

  • To support the overall project management of a Home Office led border security project.

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

 

Working to the Project Head the successful candidate will have the following responsibilities:


  • To draft and update the strategic documents governing the project.
  • Support overall management of the project to ensure that it delivers results and value for money,
  • Lead the monitoring and evaluation of the project funded activity ensuring that all reporting tasks are completed (including monthly, quarterly reports and annual reviews and other transparency requirements).
  • Manage the project budget, maintaining accurate records and providing updates and returns to the UK in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate with project partners to ensure effective and timely project management processes.
  • Identify, draft and design bids for continued and additional funding.
  • Plan and deliver visit programmes for staff and senior officials.
  • Make travel arrangements where required.
  • Assist with procurement and the delivery of initiatives as part of the wider project.
  • Represent the project at external meetings and provide high quality reporting and feedback from such events when appropriate.
  • Develop effective partnerships the wider Programme leads in London as well as HMG partners at post.
  • There may also be a requirement to undertake operational work to support the project.




What we do:


The project is focussed on increasing Border Security capability in the Caribbean.   As well as building capacity the project supports the wider UK law enforcement community both overseas and in the UK.

 

What we want from you?


The successful candidate will become responsible for many of the non-operational elements of the project and must have excellent people skills that they can use strategically to build relationships with key partners. Face to face work is a fundamental part of the job, so the successful candidate should be prepared to do some public speaking. The successful candidate may also be required to support the operational work- therefore previous immigration, customs, law enforcement and/or analytical or investigation experience would be advantageous.

 

The project is challenging but successful. The deadlines for reporting can be demanding and excellent organisational skills are therefore required to ensure on time delivery and accuracy. The successful candidate should therefore be able to manage very challenging workloads, deliver at pace and be flexible in support of business aims. The successful candidate should be able to work towards objectives with minimal supervision, show sound judgement and the ability to identify opportunities to develop both the project and working practices.

 

The role may require a small amount of travel.


 


Essential:


Strong organisational and time management skills.


Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.


A high level of written and spoken English with the ability to write high quality reports and briefings.


Sound judgement and the ability to identify and implement new policies, procedures and systems.


An ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision.


Fully conversant with Microsoft Office (word, excel, outlook and the internet).



Desirable:


Project Management experience and/or qualification.

Previous immigration, law enforcement and/or analytical or investigation experience.
