Main purpose of job:

The Communications Team works with teams across the UK’s network in Vietnam (Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City) to communicate the UK’s activities and advocacy to audiences in Vietnam with the intent to positively influence thinking and perceptions of the UK . The successful candidate will need to devise and implement communication strategies on a range of UK objectives encompassing traditional media, creative use of social media and direct / viral messaging. They will also need to operate as a press officer arranging and accompanying the Ambassador, senior Embassy Staff and UK visitors to media events.

The successful candidate will also need to have skills and experience to enable them to act in the role of a press officer, drafting press statements and press lines, contributing to speeches and arranging press conferences / events.

The successful candidate will require technical skills to engage audiences on social media including but not limited to creating and editing videos for social media and internal comms.

 Good team working and interpersonal and communication skills are essential for building networks in the media as well as working with and coaching colleagues about comms work and how to creative effective strategies.

The role is acting for the Vietnam Network and so travel to Ho Chi Minh City will be a core part of the job.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

  • Communication strategies and implementation: Working as part of a core team of two in order to plan and implement communication strategies on a range of Embassy business.  The strategies will need to encompass social media, mainstream media and direct / viral messaging depending on the audiences we need to reach. 
  • Press Officer: Acting as a press officer, drafting press statements and press lines, contributing to speeches, arranging press conferences / events and accompanying senior Embassy staff and UK visitors to press events / interviews.
  • Media Monitoring: Monitoring and sharing summaries of the media to inform colleagues of important developments.
  • Internal Comms:  Designing and sharing information to Network colleagues via electronic notice boards and the full range of corporate as well as policy issues and activity by the team.
  • Creating and editing videos: Design and implement videos for use on social media.
  • Creating comms materials: Producing and distributing high quality communications materials (banners, backdrop, greeting cards) as needed.
  • Sharing, coaching and mentoring: Sharing information, coaching and mentoring non comms professionals about how they can use comms and the comms team to enhance their reach and influence.
  • Translating: Translating communication materials in to Vietnamese / English for use on social media

  • Proven experience in developing and managing digital and social media channels
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
  • Able to work to tight deadlines and multi-task effectively
  • Good team-working skills and the ability to develop productive relationships with other teams around the network
  • Relevant tertiary qualification and/or relevant experience
  • Familiarity with implementing a digital/social media strategy
  • Familiarity with the Vietnamese media environment
  • Experience in using website content management system and social media management applications
  • Experience in producing audio-visual content for social media;
