Main purpose of job:
This is a new role created within the British Consulate General in New York will widen and deepen the UK’s impact and influence across New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Fairfield County, CT through strengthening our cultural and sports diplomacy effort. New York is a global creative hub and powerhouse for US sports organisations. This role will work with the Consulate General’s senior leadership to develop and deliver a strategy to enhance the UK’s relationships with key cultural and sports stakeholders; deepen existing partnerships; promote British arts, artists and sports; deliver British Government objectives and progress UK national interests through these prisms. This role will sit within the Consulate’s Public Diplomacy team and will need to work across a range of teams and Government Departments, in both the US and the UK, in order to deliver objectives. 

Roles and responsibilities:
1.    Develop and deliver a new cultural and sports diplomacy strategy that progresses and promotes the UK’s commercial, sustainability, innovation and DEI interests, encompassing the most relevant sectors, for example sport, TV/film, music, fashion, art and heritage organisations. 
2.    Design the strategy to be delivered principally from the British Consulate General in New York, but with the ability to extend elsewhere in the British Government’s US Network and replicated in other Consulates as required. 
3.    Map key stakeholders and partners in the world of culture and sport across the New York Consulate region and the UK, mobilising senior leaders and other colleagues to support the active management of these relationships in support of the Consulate’s goals. 
4.    Develop and deliver a year-round programme of high impact activities to celebrate British strengths and achievements and provide a platform for convening industry and thought leaders on topics that align with the Consulate’s priorities. This requires strategic thinking and proactive planning; close working with the Consulate’s communications team to amplify key messages; and an excellent network of stakeholders and awareness of events to be able to spot and create opportunities.
5.    Make maximum use of the GREAT campaign and GREAT Ambassadors to support an innovative approach to culture and sports diplomacy, including identifying additional leaders and role models for consideration to expand the number of GREAT Ambassadors. 
6.    Monitor and report on relevant cultural and sporting activities, including those led by the Consulate, those that receive UK Government funding across the New York region and other partnership-based events. 
7.    Work closely with the Consulate’s communications team to amplify key messages to target audiences, including initiatives like the Consulate’s Arts & Culture Newsletter. 
8.    Work closely with the Department for International Trade’s sports economy team to maximise the commercial angles of the Creative, Media and Sports Economy.
