The British Embassy in Berlin is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a Senior Business Development Manager for Security & Defence Sales for the Department of International Trade (DIT).

The job holder will lead a new campaign to promote British security and defence exports to Germany.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To lead and develop a campaign to significantly increase UK exports of goods and services to Germany in the security and defence sectors;
  • To scope the German market and identify relevant commercial opportunities, clients and trends;
  • To monitor the market and to build strong personal relationships with key German companies, Ministries, public authorities and other customers to facilitate door opening for UK companies;
  • To gain a strong understanding of UK capability and build a network of export-ready companies with the resilience needed for the German market;
  • To offer and provide high quality advice to UK companies on how to access the German market;
  • To organise events, eg. at key trade fairs or trade missions, customer visits as well as working closely with colleagues in London and the Embassy;
  • To work closely with the Embassy’s Defence Section in Berlin and cyber security network;
  • To handle Ministerial and senior official visits;
  • To manage a modest campaign budget;
  • To contribute to the wider objectives of the British Government’s Germany network and support its positive working environment; and
  • To carry out other duties that may reasonably be required and which are in accordance with the grading and core competencies of the job.
  • Fluent German and English (both written and spoken);
  • Previous work experience in an international business environment;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Proven ability to form professional relationships and build trust with a wide range of contacts from different backgrounds;
  • Excellent time management and prioritisation skills with the ability to work under pressure;
  • Budget Management Experience;
  • Excellent IT skills, including MS Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Degree/Masters or equivalent business qualification in a relevant Defence / Security / International Relations subject;
  • Existing network within the German defence ministry / Security and Policing environment;
  • Previous work experience in the security or defence sectors.

This is a full-time position of five working days 37.5 hours net per week, for an initial contract period of two years, which may be extended by mutual agreement.

The jobholder will become part of the British Government’s presence in Germany, which aims to support and foster them and their work.

The British Embassy in Berlin has a strong ethos of Learning and Development, including our Learning and Development Week. In addition, there will be many opportunities to attend external seminars and events on relevant issues. This is in addition to the induction programme offered to all Embassy staff.

The successful applicant will be encouraged to be actively involved in the corporate life of the Embassy, contributing to the wider objectives of the British Government’s Germany network and supporting the Embassy’s positive working environment.

 

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check and security clearance.
