The British Embassy, Doha has a vacancy for a Part Time-Aviation Security Coordinator, Grade B3 (L) position.  

Objective:

The Aviation Security Co-ordinator will manage the Aviation Security Office within the British Embassy Doha. They will support the work of the UK Government in developing aviation security standards and engagement with Host State authorities. The office has frequent contact with colleagues across the Gulf Region, Aviation Security Officers in other relevant Embassies or Consulates, and with airlines and security providers operating in the region.  Co-ordinator will be required to manage the office and stand in whilst the Aviation Security Liaison Officer (ASLO) is away from the office, which is frequent.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

The position supports the high priority work that the UK is doing on aviation security across the globe, specifically in Qatar and Oman.

The Office Co-ordinator will manage the ASLO Office in the British Embassy in Doha, working closely with Corporate Services, colleagues and other stakeholders within the embassy. The coordinator will also work with colleagues across the Gulf Region, with Department for Transport (DfT) colleagues in London, Qatari and Omani Government officials and other countries’ aviation security teams as well as airlines and security companies.

As part of their responsibilities, the post holder will assist in managing a portfolio of aviation security projects (that will include aviation security training, staff mentoring and the provision of security equipment).  The Officer may also be required to provide aviation security advice to key stakeholders.

  • Providing effective and efficient office support to the resident ASLO including: leading on all administrative procedures including record keeping, travel bookings, organising meets/events and expense reconciliation;
  • Drafting of Note Verbales and other formal correspondence;
  • Process incoming and outgoing post as well as telephone and email enquiries;
  • Ensuring ASLO accounts and expenditure are kept up to date and in line with FCO and UK Department for Transport (DfT) processes.
  • To plan, manage, implement and evaluate ASLO aviation security projects on a timely basis in the region;
  • Managing any relevant Programme budget;
  • Initiating project proposals and taking responsibility for their planning, financial management and delivery;
  • Monitoring and assessing local media and other sources for news and developments in aviation security.
  • Providing advice and briefing to key stakeholders on aviation security matters in the region
  • Drafting information notes and other briefing material
  • Providing cover and links to the ASLOs when on leave/official business.

  • At least 2 years experience in project management.
  • Experience in handling stakeholders across all levels.
  • Candidates should also have the ability to think logically/laterally and be able to display sound judgement and common sense.
  • Have good communication skills.
  • Experience of working within a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in aviation.

Working hours and Remuneration:

This position is available for an immediate start, and is offered on a part time [0.6 FTE] basis, with a starting salary of QR 8,475 plus a transport allowance of QR 480 per month, paid in arrears. The contract will be a 2 Year Fixed term contract.

No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

Embassy working hours are 7.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. Sunday to Wednesday and 7.30am to 1.30 p.m. on Thursday.  Initially part time, 21 hours per week, with a review after 6 months. Exact hours of working can be flexible and are to be agreed with the successful candidate and the Hiring Manager. 

The successful candidate will need to commence security clearance procedures through the Embassy. Training and support will be provided to the successful candidate


Eligibility:

Candidate must already reside in Qatar either under spouse sponsorship or be able to transfer existing sponsorship to the British Embassy.
