Main purpose of job:

The UK is home to over 1,000 Japanese companies who play an important part of the UK economy.  You will be working in a team which supports Japanese technology/creative companies which already have an operation in the UK grow their business further and companies without a presence yet in the UK to enter the UK .

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

Providing support to the Senior Inward Investment Officer with the development and execution of a strategy to optimise the number and quality of investments into the UK by Japanese companies in Tech & Creative Sectors.

Providing ongoing support to potential Japanese investors through engagements with colleagues in the UK and Japan. This will include online research, use of customer management database, meeting/visit arrangement, attending meetings representing HMG, report writing and facilitating enquiries.

Identify Japanese companies who may be interested in expanding overseas through sector research work, developing knowledge on sectors/businesses, making sales tools.

Supporting the team in developing good relations with existing and prospective Japanese investors. This will include managing portfolio of companies.

Partnering with Marketing Group and private sector organisation to deliver promotional events and campaigns to raise awareness among Japanese companies of the business opportunities in the UK.


Contribute to the Japan Network’s crisis readiness and take on a corporate objective that contributes to the wider running of the network.

Regular administration tasks, for example database entry of contact data, procurement and handling of payments etc.

  • 3+ year working experience in either private sector companies or public sector organisations. 
  • Interest in the technology sector.
  • Computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc) 
  • Fluent in Japanese (LPT1 for non-native speakers) and business-level English (oral and written)
