The British Embassy in Berlin is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. The Department for International Trade (DIT) is seeking to appoint a GREAT campaign coordinator, based in Berlin, to support the implementation of the GREAT campaign in Germany.

The Department for International Trade (DIT) is responsible for promoting British trade across the world. DIT Germany works to help UK-based businesses export to Germany and to encourage the best German businesses to invest in the UK.

The GREAT Britain campaign is the UK Government’s most ambitious international marketing campaign ever and showcases the very best of what Britain has to offer in order to encourage the world to visit, study and do business with the UK.

The main purpose of the position is to coordinate and implement GREAT activities across Germany in cooperation with trade and investment teams in Germany, the Embassy’s communication team, Visit Britain, British Council and DIT HQ marketing teams. The successful candidate will also support the localisation of the International Trade and Invest in GREAT campaigns in Germany.

Main objective is to deepen existing ties and build new links between Germany and the UK, by conceiving and delivering excellent activities, that showcase Britain’s excellence, what is familiar and what is new and surprising about the country.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate GREAT funded campaign activity in Germany, primarily in relation to DIT trade and investment campaigns and Great Challenge Funded activities. This includes bidding for British government funds, documenting and reporting progress and results;

  • Work closely with DIT Germany Marketing Manager as well as other internal and external partners in order to deliver GREAT activity. Conceive, plan and deliver excellent and innovative events that deliver British Embassy in Berlin and GREAT campaign objectives, often mixing soft power outreach with achieving commercial impact;

  • Ensure the GREAT Invest and Export marketing campaigns receive effective creative support, digital coverage and language checks, working with DIT Germany Marketing Manager and DIT HQ marketing teams;

  • Ensure KPIs and targets are met and properly reported to DIT HQ Marketing and GREAT team, as well as DIT Germany Director;

  • Support the global GREAT network, through the Government’s international marketing hubs and other primary GREAT campaign target countries;

  • Undertake other duties that may reasonable be required and which are in accordance with the grading and core competencies of the job, and contribute to the wider objectives of the British Government’s Germany network.

  • At least two years’ experience of running communication and marketing campaigns in a business or international environment;

  • Experience with project and event management, including budget management;

  • University degree or equivalent professional experience, preferably in marketing and communications;

  • Strong team-working and networking skills;

  • The ability to complete work to a high standard under pressure and the ability to manage competing demands and priorities effectively;

  • Fluency in written and spoken English and German (level C2);

  • Knowledge of the German and UK business environment;

  • IT literacy (particularly MS Office tools).

  • Media relations experience;

  • Experience of working with agencies;

  • Social media expertise, in particular Twitter;

  • Design expertise (InDesign);

  • Experience in producing social media video content;

  • Creative and innovative thinking.

This is a full-time position of five working days 37.5 hours net (excluding unpaid breaks) per week, for an initial contract period of one year, which may be extended by mutual agreement.

The British Embassy in Berlin has a strong ethos of Learning and Development, including our Learning and Development Week. In addition, there will be many opportunities to attend external seminars and events on relevant issues. This is in addition to the induction programme offered to all Embassy staff.

Visa/passport requirements: the successful applicant must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Germany and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
