Main purpose of job:

  1. Assist with the Northern Ireland Bureau’s financial operations in China
  2. Support the Minister Counsellor in key relationships and pro-actively identify organisations of benefit to the work of the Bureau in China and in Northern Ireland
  3. Maintain good working relationships with embassy teams and individuals from A to C grade and  proactively identify opportunities for NI involvement across the network
  4. Build an effective relationship with support staff within targeted provincial, municipal and national government to support the Minister Counsellors work and in support of official visits
  5. Liaise with Executive Office support staff to assist with information exchange and help liaise with our Northern Ireland partner organisations
  6. Help in the production of NI social media and provide information to our key contacts.
  7. Provide interpretation support when required
  8. Undertake basic research on areas of interest to Northern Ireland in China

Other work that may be necessary to the operation of the Bureau including administration tasks.

Roles and responsibilities

  1. Provide administration support including the NIB financial operations such as: preparation of payments, helping produce monthly management accounts and liaising with Northern Irelands finance Team in Belfast, attend meetings with the bank in China, presenting monthly financial statements and resolving any queries, produce payments requests when necessary. 30%
  2. Making contacts, and helping to secure meetings and arranging logistics for senior visits. 20%
  3. Basic research to identify organisations and individuals to support the work of the Bureau. 10%
  4. Update Bureau social media and marketing information and provide information to our partners in China and NI 20%
  5. Assisting with Directors meetings and local travel arrangements in China. 10%
  6. Attend relevant meetings within the embassy network 10%

 

  • Able to operate on own initiative and good inter personal skills.
  • Knowledge of Chinese Government structures and departments.
  • Ability to work with organisations representing different sectors.
  • Ability to work independently and on own initiative by focusing on work priorities with minimum day to day supervision;
  • Proven administrative and basic research skills
  • Excellent organisational skills, a good team player and a high level of attention to detail; 
  • The suitable candidate will be fluent in English and Mandarin – both written and oral.
  • Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications.

We offer a competitive package, which includes basic salary, good leave entitlement, and insurance plan, etc. The gross salary (before all deductions) is CNY 10,348 month for Chinese Nationals and an abated monthly salary of CNY 14,559/ month for British Nationals and spouses/ partners (all nationalities) of diplomats who are ‘W’ (diplomatic) visa holders and meet passport criteria.

Conditioned working hours is 35 hours/ week from Monday to Friday. Flexible working is possible so long as core hours are observed and / or by separate agreement with the Minister Counsellor.
