Main Purpose of the jobp
To support the political and communications team on key tasks: political research, media monitoring, digital communication, events management support and customer-focus services (frontline delivery).
This is a varied and interesting position, which covers a wide range of policy and project related tasks as well as administrative tasks. It will involve contact with most sections of the High Commission.
The job provides an opportunity to learn and contribute to public diplomacy first hand in a fast-paced environment. The intern will provide support for the political and communications team, as well as support on events.
Roles and responsibilities:
- Carry out reviews of print and online media and produce summary political reports for internal and external distribution
- Conduct research on particular political issues to assist UK policy development
- Organise public diplomacy events on behalf of the British High Commission
- Support the political and communications team on a variety of other tasks, ranging from administrative to policy
- Customer service: responding to inquiries
- Provide ad-hoc support to other sections
- Create social media content on Web, Facebook and Twitter to support HMG priorities
- Experience in political analysis and reporting. Experience working with media sources.
Fields of study:
Desired fields of study include political and social sciences, law and economics. A degree in any other field with evidence of interest in politics, communications and international affairs will be considered.

Applicants should be holders of a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) or in the final year of a bachelor degree programme or currently in a master degree programme.
Graduates with a higher degree who have already completed all of their studies are not eligible to participate in the internship programme. Students who have completed in-class studies and are required to complete an internship as a requirement for the award of their diploma/degree are eligible.

Staff induction, on-the-job opportunities and a wide range of UK Civil Service/FCO Diplomatic Academy e-courses on diplomacy, policy and communications amongst others.
