The British Embassy in Ankara is part of a world-wide network representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas, being a busy bilateral post and playing a vital role in managing a bilateral relationship of growing importance – across a range of HMG interests (CT, trade, foreign policy, migration, humanitarian). Political events and developments in Turkey assure that Political Section’s work is high profile. The workload is high and the team often has to work quickly and under pressure.

We are looking to recruit a Visits Officer / Political Assistant / Personal Assistant (PA) to Deputy Head of Mission (DHM), whose main responsibilities will be as:

Visits Officer (main objective is to ensure successful visits in line with FCO and HMG objectives):

  • Organise senior level visits (Royal visits, PM, FS and other Ministers, PUS) and all other visits to the Political Team;
  • Create visit programmes, arranging meetings, coordinating with Turkish authorities including the staff of senior interlocutors (e.g. in the Presidency, Prime Ministry);
  • Translation and interpretation, transport and accommodation planning and making necessary payments.

Political Assistant (main objective is to help Political Officers understand, influence and report about the country by facilitating their work):

  • Organise internal and external appointments;
  • Production of documents;
  • Organisation of travels and events;
  • Translation of documents are translated;
  • Occasional interpretation is done and meetings arrangement.

PA to DHM (main objective is to support DHM in every aspect of her role in Turkey):

  • Organisation of the DHM’s schedule and diary;
  • Preparation of documents for DHM;
  • Organisation of senior-level external meetings, domestic / foreign travel and engagements, translating documents, making occasional interpretation and organisation of events;
  • Apart from these roles, post-holder will also provide cover for the PA to HMA and wil work closely with the Embassy Info Officer to ensure the Embassy Info Officer Account is monitored and enquiries that need action are dealt with quickly.

  • Fluency in English and Turkish (both oral and written);
  • Excellent planning and organisation skills;
  • Ability to work closely with senior staff of the Consulate and their contacts;
  • Ability to maintain and develop a range of contacts to build effective working relationships;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools particularly Outlook, Word and Excel;
  • Ability to coordinate with external contacts;
  • Being adaptable and open to change;
  • Translation and interpretation skills.

This vacancy is open exclusively for internal FCO Local Staff and spouses / partners of Diplomats.

This is a fixed-time contract for 5 working days (36.25 hours net) per week.

The yearly salary for this position is 61,841.8 TL gross (will be paid pro rata) A2 level, in addition to a yearly responsibility allowance of 23,031.84 TL. Please note that staff members are responsible for paying any income tax required by local law.

The successfull candidate will be subject to professional background check, security clearance and a probation period of 2 months.
