The Public Diplomacy Officer will support events and visits for the British Consulate in New York, which represents UK interests across New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Fairfield County, CT.  This role will sit in the Consulate’s Public Diplomacy team, which delivers events promoting public diplomacy, cultural and sports diplomacy, foreign policy, sustainability, Diversity Equity & Inclusion, and relevant commercial sectors including sports, TV & film, music and fashion. The role will also support the team in designing and delivering programming and logistics for British Government officials, Ministers and Royal visits to New York. The Public Diplomacy Officer will work closely with teams across the Consulate in New York, the British Embassy in Washington, DC, the Department for International Trade, VisitBritain and the UK Mission the UN, as well as with external partners in both the United States and the United Kingdom.

The ideal candidate will be a team player with a strong attention to detail, the flexibility and adaptability to work in a fast-paced organization, and a proven track record of delivering impactful events and activities.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Manage events from start to finish for the British Consulate. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): working with a range of external partners in both the US and the UK; negotiating with venues; managing onsite logistics, budgets and staffing; sending invitations and managing RSVPs and guest lists.
  • Coordinate with colleagues from governmental departments in the UK and the US to contribute to a programme of events that deliver soft power, prosperity and international policy objectives.
  • Provide support to the Consulate on Ministerial visits, including brainstorming, contributing to and organizing content for visitor’s programmes and logistical support as necessary.
  • Finance: oversee budgets for individual events and large projects, including event budgets from project-based funding sources.
  • Maintain a range of contacts at, and knowledge of, eternal venues, caterers, AV companies and other event vendors across New York.
  • Work closely with the Consulate’s communications team to amplify key messages to target audiences.

No staff managed. The Public Diplomacy Officer will oversee events budgets, including for large-scale events that often draw from multiple project-funding sources.

•    3 year’s work experience, preferably within event operations and/or project management
•    Proven ability to deliver impactful events and activities
•    Experience in a fast-paced environment
•    Proven ability to develop realistic action plans, meet deadlines and execute on clear deliverables
•    Strong networking skills; ability and willingness to work evening events as necessary
•    Excellent verbal and written communication skills
