This is a dynamic entry-level role for an exceptional individual to join Department for International Trade’s (DIT) as the Trade and Investment Adviser. Based in the British Consulate-General Hong Kong, this role will be a key player in providing two teams with administrative assistance in promoting trade and investment across Hong Kong, Macao, and the UK. The opportunity to work with both the Investment Team and the Financial & Professional Services sector team makes this an ideal role for talents who are keen to widen their exposures in various workstreams and are confident in thriving under matrix management structures. The Banking, Financial and Professional Services team sectors focuses on engagement with a full spectrum of firms based in Hong Kong; investment banks, retail banks, private equity firms, Fintechs, hedge funds, law firms, accounting firms, pension funds, asset managers, consulting firms, insurance firms and private wealth management offices. The Banking, Financial and Professional Services team also engages a range of other government Consulates, committees, regulators and institutes across Hong Kong such as; The British Chamber of Commerce, Invest HK, HK Financial Services Dialogue Council, HK Trade & Development Council, HK FinTech Association, Institute of Chartered Accountants England & Wales, Financial Services Development Council. The team engages these important stakeholders on high priority topics such as Green and Sustainable Finance, market access and increased collaboration between the UK and China financial sectors. Inward Investment to the UK Hong Kong often acts as a conduit into and out of China for both goods and capital. With its strong links to the UK, Hong Kong has long been a major source of foreign direct investment into the UK. Next to sizable investments by institutional investors into infrastructure, real estate and property development, the UK traditionally attracts FDI projects from some of Hong Kong’s other dominant sectors, including retail, logistics and trade, financial and professional services, and recently fin-tech. |

The jobholder may be required to travel and any travel would be monitored in line with COVID-19 situation. Some work (including travel) will be required during the evenings and occasionally weekends, for which time off in lieu (where applicable) will be given.
This position is open to Hong Kong citizens, permanent residents, and partners/dependents of UK-based diplomatic staff currently posted in Hong Kong.
