Main purpose of job:

To support the Post Security Officer (PSO) and Regional Overseas Security Manager (ROSM) in the delivery of effective safety and security measures at the British Embassy and UK-based staff residences; appropriately mitigating and managing risk, ensuring the safety of staff and assets under normal working conditions whilst also preparing for times of crisis.

Supporting the (ROSM) in the consideration, planning, implementation and operation of physical security measures at the British Embassy Manila, overseeing these measures at the embassy and UK-based properties and managing day-to-day access issues as they arise. 

Working closely with the facilities management provider (ISS), coordinating the operational disposition of the local contract guards (G4S), measuring contract implementation against agreed standards (KPI) and assisting in the provision of operational briefings, induction and regular security training for all security guards.

Acting as the point of contact with local police and law enforcement agencies, developing and maintaining good working relations with senior police officers and counterparts in the host government and partner embassies, liaising on the provision of police support to the embassy.

Assisting with updating security elements of crisis management plans, ensuring staff and families are aware and fully briefed.   Acting as a member of the Crisis Emergency Team, providing security advice and assistance during crisis or emergency situations.  Maintaining the crisis equipment inventory and assisting with updating essential stores as required. 

Providing structured emergency procedure training for guards, staff and families.  Planning and conducting emergency drills and the weekly testing of all alarm systems.

Focal point for locally engaged staff (LES) security clearance processes, coordinating requirements with the ROSM and HR team. Conducting security briefings for new LES staff and issuing security passes after induction. 

Assisting in the preparation and coordination of additional security measures for major embassy events and VIP visits, liaising with venue security and local law enforcement.

Undertaking additional duties in support of embassy requirements

Resources managed (staff and expenditure):  Management of crisis store and misc. security budgets (budget TBC). 

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in effectively managing security teams, demonstrating the knowledge and skills required to assess and apply security of physical environments or comparable experience.
  • 2 years’ experience in coordinating and liaising with local government, local law enforcement agencies and other security entities, including in crisis/disaster situations.
  • Excellent organisational skills demonstrating an ability to work flexibly and unsupervised, maintaining professionalism under pressure.
  • Possess at least a “non-professional” type driver’s license.
  • A recognised professional Security Risk Management qualification or training.
  • A working understanding of digital radio and other communication systems.
  • A working understanding of technical security system (CCTV, Automated Access Control Systems, etc.)
