  • Providing first-class administrative and executive support to the High Commissioner to ensure that he/she is well-briefed and prepared for all meetings, activities, speeches, interviews and events.
  • Managing the High Commissioner’s diary, including managing his/her appointments to ensure the best use of his/her time, liaising with the official driver, organising internal and external meetings, and responding to invitations and letters etc.
  • Managing the High Commissioner’s travel arrangements, including arranging appointments and booking flights and accommodation.
  • Acting as the first point of contact for the High Commissioner and handling his/ her telephone calls, emails, correspondence and visitors, including drafting replies to routine correspondence.
  • Supporting the Events and Residence Manager on High Commission events.
  • Building and maintaining strong and productive relationships with colleagues across the British High Commission and elsewhere in the Caribbean to support the High Commissioner in achieving his/her priorities and objectives.
  • Leading on ad-hoc events and projects on behalf of the High Commissioner, such as visits of senior members of staff from the UK, internal conferences and outreach events in other countries for which the High Commissioner is responsible.
  • Providing other administrative and executive support to the Deputy High Commissioner and other members of the Chancery Team when required.
  • 5 CXCs or equivalent, including Maths and English
  • A minimum of 2 years experience in a similar role
  • Excellent IT skills (including Microsoft Office and database management)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • An excellent command of the English Language
  • An understanding of the UK

This role is open to anyone with status to work and reside in Barbados. The role will involve close collaboration with internal and external departments and stakeholders, so excellent interpersonal skills are essential.

A strong organisational focus is required to ensure all executive administrative duties are completed accurately and delivered in a timely manner.

The successful candidate must be comfortable at conversing at all levels within the organisation, demonstrate   initiative, common sense and be able to work in a small team with minimal  supervision. The highest level of personal integrity, honesty, confidentiality, reliability and professionalism is essential for this role.

  • The period of probation for this role in 6 months, though the British High Commission reserves the right to extend this in order to fairly assess performance
  • A full induction and coaching will be arranged for the successful applicant
  • The starting salary for this position is BD$ 73,731
  • The is a 2 year, fixed-term position
  • A comprehensive mandatory pension plan is offered after successful completion of the probation period. Subject to plan provider approval, group medical coverage is offered after the first month of service
  • Core office hours are 7.45am-4pm, Monday -Thursday and 8am-1pm on Fridays
  • Annual leave entitlement is 15 days rising to 20 days after one year of service. A combination of up to 14 UK and local public holiday days are also observed.
