View Vacancy - Gardener, HMA’s Residence Gardens
Main purpose of job
To support and assist the horticulturist in all areas of the residence grounds including lawn areas, diverse gardens, and greenhouses; maintaining them to a high standard of display horticulture.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Garden maintenance; including watering, weeding, pruning, planting, mulching, dead-heading, and staking a wide range of woody and herbaceous plants.
- Lawn care; including mowing, edging, weeding, fertilizing, and aerating.
- Greenhouse care; including watering, pruning, potting, transplanting, fertilizing, and basic sanitation.
- Leaf removal and grinding.
- Occasional care of indoor plants.
- Supervise volunteers.
- Support the horticulturist in large garden renovation projects.
Essential on arrival:
- The successful candidate will be a self-starter who has the drive and initiative to work independently on tasks on their own, along with enthusiasm, a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Basic knowledge of the care of ornamental plantings including turf, trees, shrubs, herbaceous plants, and annuals.
- He/she will have good communication skills and be able to take instruction and direction.
- Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
Desirable:
- Education or experience in horticulture or related field.
- Basic knowledge of equipment use and maintenance.

Working patterns:
- 40 hours per week (Monday – Friday, 07:00-15:30)
- A weekend shift during May – October may be required
- Occasional overtime may be required
