View Vacancy - Development Attaché, UKREP (BEL19.121)
The UK Permanent Representation to the EU (UKRep) works within the EU and its member states to maximise British influence on issues such as trade, the single market and economic growth and is now looking for a capable and highly motivated Development Attaché to support the representation of the UK on issues relating to International Development and the External work of the European Union.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Attend technical meetings alongside, and sometimes in place of, Whitehall policy leads, help prepare UK positions beforehand, and follow up on issues in between meetings, providing readouts and feedback to DFID and other UK government depts. (as required);
Support and occasionally lead visits from senior UK staff and /or Ministers;
Deliver logistics; prepare briefings and helping UK colleagues navigate the Brussels institutions and network;
- Line manage one A2 staff.
- A degree level qualification in a development or international relations related subject;
Knowledge of international development and foreign policy;
Experience of using public diplomacy to achieve a successful policy outcome in a legal and politically sensitive environment;
Knowledge and experience of working with European Union processes and/or government departament institutions;
Strong problem solving, prioritisation, communication and organisational skills;
Clear demonstration of interpersonal skills, resilience and team working skills;
Strong Networking skills;
- Fluency in English (both oral and written);
- Profiency in using Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of international development issues and the current key global challenges;
- Knowledge of French (fluent spoken and excellent written comprehension);
- Experience of working and managing social media.
This is a permanent full time contract for 5 working days (36.25 hours net) per week.
The monthly salary for this position is 3,865.40, B3 (L) level.
Please note that Belgian nationals will be paid their salary gross and are expected to comply with their tax obligations through completion of a tax return to the Belgian authorities. Non-Belgian nationals will receive their salary net, minus the deduction of an equivalent level of Belgian tax retained at source. Further information on this will be given to candidates during the recruitment process.
The successful candidates will be subject to professional background checks and security clearance.
Staff recruited locally by the British Diplomatic Missions in Belgium are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Belgian employment law.
Visa/passport requirements: Must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Belgium and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
