As one of nine global regions, the DIT Asia Pacific region is led by Her Majesty’s Trade Commissioner (HMTC), covering 22 offices in 14 markets through a network of over 250 people.

This is an exciting and demanding role for an exceptional individual to join us as Communications Manager. Working as part of the Regional Marketing & Communications team, the jobholder will  lead on content and communication for DIT in South East Asia, led by the Deputy Trade Commissioner (DTC), and provide support to Her Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for Asia Pacific.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Plan, develop and implement communications activity to support trade & investment work in Asia Pacific, including through priority campaigns 
  • Create briefings for HMTC and DTC SE Asia to ensure successful events and  speaking engagements in support of our regional objectives, including storing and maintaining accurate lines to take         
  • Review new technologies and exploring new developments in the digital landscape to ensure the Network’s communications exploit emerging trends and remain relevant to their audience
  • Draft social media plans and messaging, develop content calendars, and create engaging online material
  • Lead on DIT’s engagement with ASEAN via its economic pillar, including at the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit 
  • Manage and deploy effective communications plans for DIT Ministerial and VIP visits and trade talks across the region
  • Lead on external relations into key amplifier organisations in Southeast Asia 
  • Work closely with colleagues from other government departments, particularly the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), to ensure cross government alignment on local communications strategies at post  through early engagement and forward planning 
  • Build effective partnerships with the Asia Regional Marketing Hub based in Hong Kong, and Marketing and Comms leads across SE Asia, effectively forming virtual teams to deliver against key priorities
  • Provide data analysis and evaluation of DIT’s communications activities and provide recommendations to extend our communications reach and support continuous improvements 
  • Support internal capacity building through sharing expertise and knowledge to improve awareness and capability amongst colleagues of communications and marketing best practice
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to engage and influence at all levels internally and with external contacts, and collaborate effectively across teams
  • Ability to multi-task and have good organisational skills. Ability to respond quickly and flexibly to meet multiple and changing priorities
  • Digital savvy with experience or willingness to use social media, data analytics, and marketing software tools
  • Experience in developing and managing media relationships
  • Experience of working in a communications role

Normal working hours are 37.5 per week: 8.30am to 5.00pm from Monday to Friday.
