Main purpose of job:

The UK’s Department for International Trade (DIT) in North America seeks a proactive, enthusiastic, results-driven Marketing Campaign Manager, with a minimum of 3-5 years of marketing experience, to manage effective marketing campaigns across the US and Canada.

Our marketing campaigns target DIT’s business audiences including exporters, consumers, influencers, economic policy makers, and external partners, to encourage them to invest in the UK or buy British goods and services.  

The jobholder will have a special focus on the trade and investment element of a priority policy theme for the UK Government in North America. They will fulfil a pivotal role between relevant regional directors, senior leadership, sector teams, agencies and the North America and HMG marketing and communications colleagues in the US, Canada, and the UK. Working within the framework of the annual Regional Trade Plan, the jobholder will build out a bespoke campaign and delivery plan. Their role is to understand sector business audiences and industry norms to achieve cut-through in competitive paid and earned media environments, and stand out against our competitors. 

The Campaign Manager will align the marketing and communications work of the UK sector and localises the approach for the North American market using insights, evaluation and evidence. The jobholder will lead on our government-to-business (G2B) and business-to-business (B2B) sector marketing and often delivers marketing projects that win business for UK exporters (including overseas direct investment), investment lead-generation, and relevant UK prosperity work.  The campaign manager readily triages workflow and activity in order to help the Communications and Marketing Services side of the team manage delivery and appropriate use of resources. 

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

Under the direction of the Head of Marketing Campaigns for North America, and in support of/in alignment with the annual Regional Prosperity Plan’s annual Communications and Marketing Strategy developed by the Head of Communications, the Campaign Manager will:

  • Develop, execute and evaluate North America marketing and communications campaign plans and cross-team toolkits for their assigned thematic area, ensuring they are guided by insight and evidence.
  • Work closely with North America-based colleagues to ensure plans and activities customized, successful, thoroughly-evaluated, and provide value for money.
  • Represent the views of North America market with colleagues across HMG, to influence UK strategy, plans and delivery.
  • Liaise with fellow cross-UK government communications and marketing colleagues based in the US and Canada on collaborative projects, collating relevant DIT and sector top lines and statistics as-needed to inform external messaging.
  • Develop expertise and understanding of the strategy, audience and media interests of target audiences.
  • Provide marketing expertise across range of integrated marketing campaigns skills – events, project management, messaging, advertising and paid media campaigns, email marketing, strategy, brand, digital.   
  • Plan and deliver agreed North America marketing and communications activities, together with regional, sector teams and services teams, including event organisation, writing briefs for proposed advertising and media buys, procurement, working with agencies to deliver activity (event, digital, PR) and content for sectors (microsite/landing pages, podcasts, social media cards, LinkedIn, blogs, etc.).
  • Provide project management of larger, portfolio-relevant North America-wide campaigns and projects.
  • Work with North America trade and investment teams to effectively manage external stakeholders.
  • Regularly deliver induction, onboarding and ongoing marketing best practice guidance to DIT trade and investment teams.

Essential: 

  • Essential on arrival: At least 3-5 years of marketing campaigns experience in a government, non-profit, agency, and/or in-house setting;
  • Marketing campaigns and project-management experience;
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver value for money;
  • Creatively-minded, solutions-oriented, and collaborative to the core;
  • A track record of securing positive results for dynamic marketing campaigns and projects;
  • Excellent command of the English language, with attention to detail and strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills. A demonstrated ability to write clearly, accurately, and persuasively;
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects from start to finish;
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills;
  • A demonstrated ability to deliver results in challenging environments;
  • Reliable, capable under pressure, with a good understanding of the challenges, sensitivities, and discretion required of working in the world of government and diplomacy;
  • Self-starter, good decision-making skills, and able to work independently;

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with the UK’s system of government and political system.
  • Good grasp of general economic policies; general understanding of trade policy, trade and investment promotion.
  • A professional marketing industry qualification or certification, such as in digital marketing, event management, content marketing, marketing analytics, and campaign strategy.

Working patterns:

The core working hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET, but potentially variable (depending on workload) and somewhat flexible, with Line Manager's agreement.
