Main purpose of job:

 To plan , organize and manage the work of  two Estates Officers and by extension  a big team of Technical Works staff and all HMG estates, assets and accommodation properties to a professional and efficient standard consistent with FCDO policies. 

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

  • Hold responsibility for the management of the BHC’s estate at our five locations in Freetown
  • Ensure housing is provided on arrival, prepared to a good standard and fully equipped, and in line with the FCDO Post housing policy; and disseminate the policy to staff before they arrive. 
  • Proactive and reactive maintenance and building works (and associated contract management)
  • Lead on Health and Safety issues (including building standards, work station assessments and fire wardens).
  • Management of TWG stores office
  • Provide help desk assistance for works requests
  • Prompting and reviewing instant feedback from customers of the estates/maintenance service
  • Responsibility for ensuring that PYRAMID data on all estates is accurately and promptly updated, including state of furniture and housing packs, and maintain asset register (regularly forwarded to Head Of Corporate Services for cross check).
  • Regularly checking HERA for maintenance costs for inclusion in PYRAMID records.

Resources managed (staff and expenditure):

Two Estates Officers 


  • Previous experience of managing estates and assets
  • The proven ability manage large teams
  • Evidence of the ability to follow closely procurement policies

·       Experience of providing estates management services in the diplomatic/NGO sector

Working patterns:

This is a Monday to Friday role, with frequent supervisory travel required to our sites in Freetown.
