The British Consulate General Jeddah has a vacancy for a Trade Advisor under the Department for International Trade (DIT) for a fixed-term contract of two (2) years.

The Department for International Trade (DIT) is the UK government’s lead department for international trade and supports foreign investment into the United Kingdom. The jobholder will work on the Creative Cluster which encompasses a wide range of sub-sectors that include Architecture & Design; Culture, Arts & Heritage; Sports; Entertainment & Events; Experience Economy and Leisure, Tourism & Hospitality. However, the jobholder should also be flexible in responding to changes to sector priorities based on operational requirements as guided by the DIT KSA Director.

This is an interesting and varied role and comes at an interesting time as the relationship develops between the UK and Saudi Arabia. The jobholder’s main role is to promote business opportunities to the UK across the KSA network. You will understand KSA market trends and ambitions to identify valuable Export Opportunities and secure high value Export Wins in pursuit of Saudi Arabia targets and corporate objectives for DIT.


Duties and responsibilities:

  • Manage relationships with UK companies, DIT Sector Group, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) Prosperity teams, British Council, UK trade associations, our support partner Arabian Enterprises Incubators (AEI), and other KSA stakeholders that include both public and private sector organisations to identify business opportunities and needs in KSA which match the UK capability and translate them into tangible ‘Export Wins’ for UK providers.
  • Develop and maintain Strategic Relationship Management (SRM) across specific areas with key interlocutors in the sectors to understand their objectives and inform DIT’s approach to the sectors.
  • Identify key trends, trajectory, and local business drivers that will add value to DIT’s business pipeline and support the wider Vision 2030 goals. These will contribute towards DIT’s Key Performance Indicators.
  • Help deliver specific activities or events, e.g., trade missions, inward and outward visit programmes, country/ sector briefing, webinars, as well as supporting the wider corporate activities which are led by the Deputy Consul General and Head of Trade at the Consulate.
  • Support sector lead in the delivery of set targets for the sector.

The above list is not exhaustive and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required, including participating in the Consulate’s emergency planning and any response to a crisis.

  • Strong IT computer skills and in using MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • Previous experience in at least one of the sub-sectors in the Creative Sector in KSA and/ or the UK.
  • Previous commercial experience and working in a target driven environment.
  • Arabic language skills (for liaising with KSA government and stakeholders).
  • Project management experience.
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills.

Eligibility:

The position is available to Saudi nationals and to current holders of valid Saudi residence permits or transferable iqamas. The successful candidate will be required to transfer their sponsorship to the British Consulate General.

Working hours and remuneration:

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role.

Salary details:

  • Base Salary including Eid bonus - SAR 8,557.81
  • Housing Allowance - SAR 2,139.45 (subject to eligibility)*
  • Travel Allowance - SAR 400 (subject to eligibility)*

*Allowances are not payable to staff who receive official provision for such expenditure in some other form.


No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.


Normal working hours for the Embassy are 08:00 to 15:00 Sunday to Thursday. This position is full-time, based on 35 hours per week.

The jobholder should be flexible in their approach to hours worked as these will be dictated by operational needs and may involve travel and working out of hours, especially during events and visits.

 

The successful candidate will be subject to a 90-day probationary period.
