Main purpose of job:

This is an exciting opportunity to support the success of the UK-Brazil Tech Hub that aims to support the Brazilian tech ecosystem, delivering digital skills programmes, promoting diversity and inclusion, and driving partnerships and collaborations with the UK. We are looking for an organised and enthusiastic individual to provide a broad range of project management and communications support across the team. The Hub delivers one of three critical pillars of the Digital Access Programme to drive greater digital access in Brazil.

The role will be based either in São Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Rio de Janeiro or Recife, with possible travel across the country to maximise the success and outputs of the hub in Brazil.

The UK-Brazil Tech Hub is part of the global network of international tech partnerships developed by the UK government’s Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) to build digital ecosystems that will facilitate sustainable economic growth and development. The Hub has three main aims:

  • Deliver tailored interventions to cultivate digital skills responding to the needs and opportunities for diversity and inclusion in the local tech sector.
  • Support tech entrepreneurship through partnerships with local digital ecosystem stakeholders including incubators, accelerators and private sector firms, Brazilian government departments and agencies and non-profit organisations;
  • Facilitate partnerships between local tech firms (including tech start-ups) and international companies (across all sectors) in the form of commercial partnerships or joint ventures. 

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

  • Project management: Providing leadership on the management of the Hub’s ongoing projects, as well as the implementation of new ones. This will include procurement, budget and partner delivery management;
  • Stakeholder relationship: Developing and managing relationships with local tech firms, startups and wider tech sector stakeholders, using these to support the development of new partnerships and programmes;
  • Cross-team collaborations: Collaborating with the other Hubs in the global network to develop the network offering;
  • Communications: Developing and managing the UK-Brazil Tech Hub communications strategy and a suite of externally facing marketing and communications materials and platforms, aligned with the UK in Brazil, FCDO and DCMS communications teams;
  • Engagement and events: Working in collaboration with DCMS and other government departments, taking responsibility for delivering virtual and in-person events that support the development of the local tech ecosystem;
  • Operations: Leading on selected operational management responsibilities, including potentially: project oversight, budget management, impact assessment (monitoring and evaluation), or as further defined according to need in order to support the work of the Hub’s Director and new strategic directions for the Hub;
  • Leadership: Deputising for the Director in various leadership roles within the team, including representing the Hub externally in some circumstances (media, speaking opportunities, event representation). 

Skills / experience / qualifications:

This role will suit individuals with excellent communications and networking skills, including across international environments, who are passionate about startups, innovation and technology.

●      Strong experience in Communications, preferably in government or international organisation;

●      Experience in, and knowledge of, the tech sector and start-up scene within Brazil;

●      Well networked within the tech sector (private sector firms and/or startups);

●      Track record of leading successful delivery in either industry or government;

●      Proven track record of developing and running programs and partnerships from the ground up.

●      Preferably budget management and fund raising experience.

 

Language requirements:

Excellent working levels of English and Portuguese, both written and spoken

                      

Resources managed (staff and expenditure):

The job holder will report to the UK-Brazil Tech Hub Director. The post holder will be required to work closely with the Tech Hub network team in the DCMS and FCDO and other government departments, including Science and Innovation Network (SIN), Department of International Trade (DIT), British Council, and Embassy and Consular teams.
