Driver / Messenger

Main purpose of job:

Primarily to drive and safely operate the HMG transport pool vehicles. S/he must be on call throughout the day according to the daily movements or requirements. The incumbent must hold an accurate valid driving licence and ensure it remains valid. S/he must be flexible in terms of working hours in line with the requirements of the job and operational needs. Most of the daily work is within Dhaka City but the incumbent will be expected to go to other districts at short notice, often involving overnight stays. Safe driving is an absolute requirement at all times as the safety of our passengers is paramount. S/he must also have a positive, friendly, can-do attitude & prove to be a team player.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Driving and operating the HMG transport pool vehicles in a safe manner
  • Drive the vehicles safely within the legal requirements of Bangladesh
  • Be flexible in terms of hours in line with the requirements of the job and business needs
  • Carry out daily checks i.e. engine oil level, brake fluid level, radiator, battery level, clutch fluid level, exterior lights, tyre pressures, etc. as specified in the driver’s daily check list
  • Maintain vehicle logbook – mileage, petrol consumption, and records of visit
  • Keep the assigned vehicles clean and roadworthy condition
  • Plan the route and other requirements as necessary
  • The ability to do basic computer work on Word and Outlook is essential
  • Other appropriate duties, such as mail drops, as detailed by the transport section
  • Support the HMG transport section activities outside of normal working hours as and when required

Language requirements:  

Language: English - Good 

Level of language required:  A good command of English language is required plus the ability to read and write in English to a minimum standard. Applicant might be tested.

Learning and development opportunities: 

AV driving course; driving and maintenance courses; English Language and IT courses may be offered.

Essential on arrival: 

Driving Qualification: At least 5 years of proven safe driving experience. Experience or completion of an approved Vehicle driving course.  Previous experience driving for expatriate organisations, UN agencies, or other diplomatic missions.  

IT Skills: Basic computer (MS Word, Outlook) skills to complete electronic documents.

Education: Minimum requirement is Secondary School Certificate (SSC).
