The British Embassy in Ankara is part of a world-wide network representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit a Trade Policy Officer to join the Department for International Trade (DIT) team.

What you will be expected to achieve?

Main Responsibilities will include:

  • Identify, monitor and report on key developments in Turkish economic and trade policy with a potential impact on UK interests
  • Identify and understand problems UK businesses are facing in Turkey through meeting businesses, business associations and think tanks
  • Answer business enquiries about the terms of trade between the UK and Turkey, investigating the rules or procedures involved in any issue, and explaining these
  • Utilise network of businesses, parliamentarians, think tanks and industry to find solutions to trade barriers and lobby appropriate stakeholders to resolve barriers
  • Support broader teams as required, including Ministerial visits, business outreach and engagement, as necessary, ensuring join up across the network

Our ideal candidate shows: 

  • Fluency in Turkish and English (both oral and written); C1 or above
  • University degree in relevant field or equivalent professional experience
  • Experience of using networking in order to achieve organisational objectives
  • A track record of organising, planning, efficient time management, attention to detail and follow-up discipline
  • A track record of working independently with ownership of a project and working effectively under tight deadlines
  • A track record of personal credibility with influential interlocutors and stakeholders

It will be a plus:

  • Background in economic, trade policy, lobbying or similar roles in government
  • Some previous experience working with business
  • Understanding of the Turkish services sectors and regulatory environment

This is a full-time permanent contract, for 5 working days (36.25 hours net) per week.

The monthly base salary for this position is 2,602.41 USD gross EO level. Please note that staff members are responsible for paying any income tax required by local law.

All applicants should have the right to live and work in Turkiye. The British Embassy in Ankara do not sponsor for work permits.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check, security clearance and a probation period of 2 months.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Ankara is subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Turkish employment law.
