Main purpose of job:


The Department for International Trade (DIT) is the part of British Government that helps UK-based companies succeed globally and supports overseas companies to bring investment to the UK.


This is an exciting role that will have autonomy over how business is developed in the northeast while taking guidance on priority opportunities from the trade sector teams in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and London. The role will involve building relationships with Brazilian and British companies in order to assist British companies in winning business in the region. The role will also involve intelligence gathering on the market access and trade policy issues which would improve the regional environment for trade. Finally, the Business Development Manager will be responsible for coordinating both inward and outward trade missions as well as visits by British ministers and government directors.


This is an ideal position for someone with experience in networking and sales who possess quality communication and leadership, the ability to develop and deliver a strategy involving multiple stakeholders and prioritisation skills.


The role will require working collaboratively with DIT teams that the candidate will most often speak to through e-mail and video calls. Therefore it is important that the candidate feel comfortable using these tools to build a develop a commercial strategy involving others in the network. The job will be challenging and will require the successful candidate to take responsibility for delivering both quickly and to a high quality standard.

 

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

 

The job holder is expected to:


  • Create a pipeline of opportunities in the sectors identified as being priorities for the UK, but will special focus on Retail, Marine, Creative Economy;
  • Create a strategy for developing opportunities across the most high-potential northeastern states.
  • Work closely with DIT colleagues from across the UK network to create a one team strategy and achieve UK objectives
  • Identify and help address market access barriers which restricts UK companies’ ability to do business in Brazil Assist UK companies to enter the Brazilian market by supporting the organisation of senior visits and missions (Ministers, Secretaries, Directors of Trade and Investment) and by conducting, sometimes commissioning reports and market researches with the objective of promoting trade between Brazil and the UK.
  • Support the British Consul in Recife in his activities promoting the opportunities in the northeast of Brazil to UK companies
  • Be available to flex into supporting other sector and HMG teams at times of peak demand / crisis.

 

This position will suit an energetic, motivated self-starter with a dynamic personality, able to work with an international team and who welcomes challenges. It will require a positive and proactive attitude that thinks in terms of opportunities, not problems.

 

Essential on arrival: A university degree in any subject.

  • At least 5 years’ experience (internship included)
  • A demonstrable knowledge/understanding of British business opportunities
  • A demonstrable knowledge/understanding of Brazilian trade within the northeast
  • Committed team player with ability to self-motivate, resilience, and autonomy
  • Fluency and excellent research and report writing skills in English
  • Ability to solve problems, prioritise, organise and manage multiple tasks
  • Strong communicating and influencing skills




Language requirements:

 

Language:  English and Portuguese

 

Level of language required: Fluent


Desirable:

 

  • Previous experience in sales and marketing, management experience, project Management experience, international work experience.
  • Some knowledge/experience of any of the Retail, Marine or Creative Economy sectors.
