Working within the Counter Terrorism and Extremism Network (CTEN), the successful candidate will be responsible for providing administrative support to ensure the efficient running of the section and effective management of CTEN team resources.  This role is an opportunity to support a high profile foreign policy priority by helping tackle terrorism in line with international human rights standards.

The successful applicant will have an interest in security and justice issues and be able to use their administrative skills to deliver in a fast paced environment. They will support members of the CTEN who have regional responsibilities and travel regularly throughout S and SE Asia.

The jobholder is expected to -

Provide administrative and clerical support to the team in order to ensure effective and efficient operations, including: facilitating travel and meeting requirements; organising visits and events; and acting as key point of contact for administrative requirements.

Administer the CTEN’s Team Operational Budget: working with the Hub and regional CT officers to record and monitor expenditure, provide accurate forecasts, process expense claims and review all purchasing requests to ensure audit procedures are followed.

Provide administrative support to the Hub’s functional work around the region, e.g. creating and maintaining a contacts database; maintaining records of UK and allies CT programmes in the region.

Provide ad hoc project support to CT Programme Officers in administrative aspects of project management, including project planning, financial forecasting, monitoring and evaluation, periodic reporting etc.

As time, interests and skills permit, assisting regional CT officers with appropriate policy work.

  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Excellent IT skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Experience of budget management including monitoring spend and processing invoices
  • Ability to produce clear and accurate work with attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative to solve problems
  • Can support colleagues when under pressure and able to contribute to cross-team working
  • A flexible and proactive approach
  • Previous experience working as a Personal Assistant
  • Previous experience of project management

This position is being advertised on a 1-year fixed term contract with a possibility of further extension.

First rate working conditions include a competitive remuneration package– 20 days annual leave per annum (pro-rata basis) and working hours of 08:00 - 17:00 Monday to Thursday and 8:00 - 14:00 on Friday, within those times there is some flexibility as to when staff starts and finishes work.  

Employment offers are subject to successful clearance of pre-employment checks. 

No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position. You must have or be able to obtain work authorisation in Malaysia in order to apply.
