The British Embassy, Abu Dhabi has a vacancy for the post of an Entry Clearance Officer, Grade B3 (L).

The objective of this role is to provide high quality, efficient and non-discriminatory visa application processing which meets published standards and to provide all customers with a firm, fast and fair service. The successful candidate will be given a contract for 2 years on completion of a 3 month probation period.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To assess and resolve visa applications within agreed benchmarks. You must be able to analyse information and reach a decision quickly and be able to justify this decision both orally and in writing. Entry Clearance Officers are expected to meet challenging daily workload targets.
  • To ensure that all correspondence is considered, and reports or replies prepared within target times, in clear and concise English.
  • To deal professionally with all callers to the Visa Section, whether on the telephone or in person, ensuring that people are treated fairly and responding sensitively to differences.

  • Leading and Communicating: Effectiveness in this area is about leading from the front and communicating with clarity, conviction and enthusiasm. 
  • Excellent spoken and written English. Please submit with your application either an IELTS certificate at a minimum of level 6.5 or an equivalent qualification, or evidence of secondary/higher education in the medium of English.
  • Computer literate with accurate typing skills of at least 25 words per minute.
  • The ability to work quickly and reliably with little supervision and meet challenging targets on a daily basis.
  • Capable of making quick decisions in accordance with set rules and able to show that these decisions are fair and just on all occasions.
  • The ability to work well under pressure in a target driven environment
  • The ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Must have previous Entry Clearance experience
  • Applicants should have or will need to have an appropriate level of UK security clearance and be able to obtain a valid UAE police clearance certificate.
  • Must have passed the Entry Clearance Officers course within the last 2 years

  • Arabic, Hindi and Urdu language skills would be advantageous

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including: 25 days of annual leave per annum, on-site parking and on-site swimming pool, gymnasium and sports facilities. 

Salary details:

  • Base Salary – AED 9,239
  • * Allowances – AED 3,670 (subject to eligibility)*

* Allowances are not payable to staff who receive official provision for such expenditure in some other form.

No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

Conditioned working hours are 38 hours per week. Standard working hours are from 07:30 to 14:30 from Sunday to Thursday. However, there may be a requirement for working on Saturday with a compensatory day off during the week. There may also be a requirement for working a late shift, which is currently 10am to 5pm, for one week in every eight.  25 days annual leave will be available to take during the temporary contract but will be restricted to a maximum of two weeks consecutively at peak periods of the year and will be dependent on the needs of the business.

Eligibility:

The successful applicant will be required to obtain security clearance. Higher clearances can be granted only to certain nationalities.  For this reason, candidates must be of British, American, Australian, Canadian or New Zealand nationality in order to gain the level of clearance required.
