Main purpose of job:

Part-time Estates Officer for Government House. Management of estate, including some oversight of the gardens, and the vehicle fleet ensuring value for money and efficient delivery of services.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve:

·         Ensure the smooth running of the estate, ensuring work plans are implemented, and projects are managed appropriately.

·         Oversee maintenance and upkeep of estate properties and gardens.

·         Oversight and management of major projects and developments required on the estate.

·         Manage Health, Safety and Environment for the estate, and provide assurance that standards are met and maintained.

·         Assist with the logistics and delivery of successful Government House events.

·         Assist Finance Officer in managing GH budgets through effective management of delegated resources, both from local and FCDO budgets.

·         Liaise with Regional Technical Lead on the Property Compliance Assessment, and the maintenance programme of works.

·         Ensure senior staff are regularly consulted on plans and progress of agreed project work.

The successful candidate will be an articulate and engaging individual able to build a rapport with stakeholders, both local and regional. The job holder will have excellent attention to detail combined with the ability to manage complex projects. Well-developed organisational skills, flexibility, and the ability to multitask and troubleshoot problems creatively are important.

 

Essential on arrival:

 GCSEs in English and Maths. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office including MS Teams. Driving licence.

Desirable:

Background in/knowledge of estate/facilities management and construction.

Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
This is a demanding post requiring the individual to work across a wide range of stakeholders, many of whom are not based in the Falkland Islands. As such the post holder is expected to be able to create and sustain relationships that enable objectives to be fully delivered. As a small post each member of staff is required to provide cover for colleagues during periods of leave or sickness, appropriate training will be provided. This does require the post holder to display flexibility and a willingness to learn new skills.
