Main purpose of job:

Invest Northern Ireland (Invest NI) (www.investni.com) is part of the Department for the Economy in Northern Ireland, United Kingdom (UK). It is Northern Ireland’s principal business development agency with responsibility for supporting the growth of the Northern Ireland economy through the development of its businesses locally and internationally, bringing greater economic benefit and prosperity to the people and this region of the UK.

Operating in over 24 international cities, Invest NI’s overseas offices are responsible for supporting Northern Ireland companies in developing business overseas thus increasing export sales, developing collaborations and marketing Northern Ireland as an inward investment location. Invest NI works closely with a wide range of clients including local businesses, multi-national companies, industry bodies, universities and colleges.  It also works closely with business associations and stakeholders such as the UK’s Department for International Trade (DIT), Chambers of Commerce, the British Council and Tourism Ireland.

Invest NI is renewing its focus in a number of countries around the IMEA region and reopening offices in India.

The job holder will support and report to the new Invest Northern Ireland Regional Manager, Trade and Investment for India.

They will manage the office and support the Regional Manager with increasing Northern Ireland exports to the region and promoting Northern Ireland as a destination for investment and studying.  They will liaise with major players across selected industries to build up a network of potential clients/ customers/ representatives and also identify opportunities for NI businesses to facilitate commercial deals and partnerships.  It will involve travelling and very close working relationships with DIT offices and colleagues and other UK stakeholders such as the FCDO, British Council and Tourism Ireland. 

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

  • Proactively identify relevant business opportunities for Northern Ireland companies through market intelligence, connections and research and promote the Northern Ireland capability to key decision makers;
  • Develop strong relationships with targeted companies, stakeholders and influencers in the region and enable Northern Ireland companies to engage with them;
  • Assist with the development of a specific strategy in agreed sectors to seek opportunities for potential inward investment and trade development;
  • Support Northern Ireland companies interested in the region by providing information they require to make informed business decisions by handling market research and assessment enquiries, conducting visits and setting up appointments and writing appropriate reports;
  • Oversee and manage in-market support for company visits, trade missions, events and exhibitions;
  • Engage effectively with colleagues and stakeholders based in Northern Ireland to provide market and sector briefings and to ensure that activity in the market aligns with corporate plans;
  • Develop and manage a network of NI ex-pats living/ working in region and work with NI Connections to lever economic returns to Northern Ireland;
  • Manage relevant information sources and maintain accurate recording of customer and stakeholder information on Invest NI’s CRM and management systems.

Resources managed (staff and expenditure):

Prepare an annual budget with Regional Manager’s direction for the region and manage and report on spend in line with approved budget and necessary corporate governance guidelines.

  • A track record in Research/ Networking, including managing and undertaking market research, analysing market data, preparing reports and presenting information clients and senior management;
  • A sound business knowledge of India and an awareness of specific issues relating to doing business in the region;
  • Experience in developing and maintaining effective working relationships at senior levels with excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with business and government contacts and colleagues in India and the UK;
  • Exceptional organisational, IT and administrative skills;
  • Proven Project Management skills.

Language requirements:

Language: English

Level of language required: Exceptional spoken and written English (may be tested). 

Knowledge of Northern Ireland, particularly an understanding of its key sectors and economic drivers.

For British High Commission (BHC) candidates, the Local Staff BHC Terms & Conditions will apply. 

For other than BHC candidates, salary will be ­­­­­­INR 67,767 per month plus 12% provident fund and 6% Special Allowances.

Additionally the BHC offers a great benefits package that includes annual domiciliary medical cover, plus a Group Hospitalisation Scheme with Rs. 500,000 floater cover for your immediate family. 

Please note - BHC does not deduct tax at source and employees are required to ensure that any requirements of local income-tax law are complied with in full. Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg. some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
