The British Embassy Riyadh has a vacancy for a Post Security Manager (PSM) on a fixed term contract of two (2) years, with a possibility for extension.

Reporting to the Regional Overseas Security Manager (ROSM), the jobholder will be responsible for the physical and protective security and the safety and security of staff and families at the British Embassy and properties on the Estate. The role will involve the management of an established and capable Security Team.

The jobholder must have excellent communication and the ability to give clear, concise advice on a range of security topics, commensurate with their position, as per policy and procedure. The jobholder will also need to work flexible hours as required, in support of and providing security management for, out of hours’ functions and events within the Embassy Compound. This role is open to both male and female candidates. 

 

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Support the ROSM in maintaining the physical security of the Embassy and Compound Residences and UK-based (UKB) staff residences within the Diplomatic Quarter. Open up the Embassy building at 0700 hours on each working day.
  • Management of a Security Team consisting of 16 guards who are responsible for security checks, including physical searches of personnel and vehicles, monitoring of CCTV, operating UHF radio network, patrolling and security regulations.
  • Management of the recruitment, coordination, and learning and development for the Security Guards.
  • Management of the Security Team shift roster. Reacting to subsequent changes such as leave, illness, or other unforeseen circumstances within the guard force. Ensuring that the daily occurrences book and visitor notification forms are kept in date.
  • Planning and coordinating the requirement for additional security guards for functions and events
  • Processing paperwork for absences, leave coordination, illness and overtime payments.
  • Conducting regular reviews of security policy and recommend amendments or updates to the ROSM.
  • Management of security equipment to include inventory checks, planned maintenance and testing schedules, and correct use or deployment of the equipment.
  • Leading on UKB Radio allocations and inventory, coordination of SatPhone issues and supervise the monthly UKB officer radio checks and periodic checks of all Embassy SatPhones.
  • Management of security exercises, drills, and alarm tests.
  • Regular written and oral communications to all staff on security issues.
  • Assisting on visits and events, including occasional field deployments. Providing an out of hours’ security presence for larger events.
  • Liaison with local security managers at other diplomatic missions, schools where UKB staff children attend, and other friendly commercial organisations in Riyadh.
  • Dealing with members of the public and staff in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Reacting to incidents and issues in a calm, disciplined manner as part of a team, including exercises and learning and development to understand policy and procedures.
  • Providing relevant and commensurate security advice to staff.
  • Other relevant tasks as detailed by the ROSM.

The above list is not exhaustive and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required, including participating in the Embassy’s emergency planning and any other response to a crisis affecting UK citizens.

  • Team player who is capable of working on their own initiative as well as with others, including in a fast-paced and changing environment.
  • Collaborative approach to colleague and stakeholder partnerships. Ability to maintain a range of contacts to build effective working relationships.
  • Resilient, decisive with a can-do attitude, and calm under pressure and with a proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Excellent communication skills in English. Able to express ideas and messages clearly and concisely, both orally and in written communication.
  • Strong IT skills and well versed in the use of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams). 
  • Holds a recognised security qualification at degree level, or similar professionally recognised security management qualification.
  • Preferably has worked in embassies/ foreign diplomatic missions, international organisations, or NGOs, or has had similar experience in a security environment.
  • Membership in security industry professional bodies (i.e., ASIS, Security Institute).
  • Arabic language skills.

Eligibility:

The position is available to Saudi Nationals and to current holders of valid Saudi residence permits or transferable iqamas. The successful candidate will be required to transfer their sponsorship to the British Embassy.

 

Working hours and remuneration:

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role.

Salary details:

  • Base Salary including Eid bonus - SAR 8,557.81
  • Housing Allowance - SAR 2,139.45 (subject to eligibility)*
  • Travel Allowance - SAR 400 (subject to eligibility)*
  • Total - SAR 11,097.26

*Allowances are not payable to staff who receive official provision for such expenditure in some other form.

No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

This position is full-time, based on 35 hours per week. Working hours are from 07:00 to 14:00 from Sunday to Thursday.

The successful candidate should also be flexible in their approach to hours worked as these will also be dictated by operational needs and may involve working out of hours (evening and weekend), particularly during events and visits or during times of crisis. Time off in lieu will be offered for additional hours worked.

The successful candidate will be subject to a 90-day probationary period.
