Main Purpose of Job:

Trade and investment is at the very heart of British government policy. The UK’s Department for International Trade (DIT) helps British businesses to export, supports inward and outward investment, and champions free trade. Peru is an important business partner for the UK, and there is great potential to grow our trade and investment relationship.

DIT is looking for an Intern to work as part of the DIT Team at the British Embassy in Lima. The successful applicant will play an integral part in delivering our services to UK companies. Duties will include supporting the business operations of the team, collating statistics and information, market research, writing reports, meeting business contacts, as well as organising high profile events and developing visit programmes.

Great team working skills, flexibility, resilience and professionalism are essential for this role.

The successful applicant will gain a broad range of trade and investment experience and development opportunities which they can use to progress their career. This is a great opportunity to engage closely with the public and private sectors in Peru, the UK and in other Latin American markets in support of the trade team’s objectives.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • To support the team’s programme of events (many of which are happening online) including conferences, trade missions, webinars and networking events
  • Working in close partnership with colleagues to support the wider work of the DIT Peru team, including help with planning events and VIP visits, analysis and briefing;
  • Identifying and taking-up opportunities to improve existing skills and/or develop new ones;
  • Fulfilling the requirements of performance appraisal process, including establishing and executing a personal development plan; fully comply with DIT and Embassy policies and embrace the Embassy values of Respect, Innovation, Collaboration and Enjoyment;
  • Performing other reasonable tasks as requested by the Director of DIT Peru.
  • Microsoft Office proficient
  • Fluency in English and Spanish
  • Experience and interest in international trade, business, or international relations would be desirable
  • Experience in playing a supporting role for teams is highly desirable

Learning and Development Opportunities:

Interns will receive training according to their role and will be free to implement fresh, innovative ideas.

Working Patterns:

30 hours per week, Monday – Friday

Requests for flexible working arrangements will be considered.

Candidates must be eligible to live and work in Peru in their own right. The successful candidate will be subject to a security clearance and professional reference checks. Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
