Economic and Prosperity

In November 2015, the UK Government announced a £1.3bn Prosperity Fund over the next 5 years to promote the economic reform and development needed for growth in partner countries.  Priorities will include improving the business climate, competitiveness and operation of markets, energy and financial sector reform, and increasing the ability of partner countries to tackle corruption. These reforms will drive sustainable development and will aim to contribute to a reduction in poverty in developing countries.  They will also create opportunities for international business, including UK companies.

The China Prosperity Fund Programme has developed a strong record for excellence in recent years. The increase of the fund scale as well as changing of delivery model will shift the programme’s focus from one-year delivery to five-year continuous policy influence. 

This is an opportunity to work on the successful delivery of this multi-year project-based programme at the heart of the UK’s bilateral engagement with China.  The China Prosperity Fund programme seeks to create the conditions for stronger, more sustainable global growth and prosperity through a portfolio of projects on Infrastructure, Financial Services, Rule of Law for Business, Low Carbon & Energy, Skills, Health and Future Cities. 

We are now looking for a candidate to join a busy, high performing programme central team.  You will have excellent administration skills, communication skills, an eye for detail and be IT literate, being particularly comfortable using excel and word.  Written and verbal communication is an important factor in this role as the successful candidate will be required to liaise closely with the Embassy programme teams and stakeholders in London.

General support and administrative duty (60%)

Provide general administrative support to the Central Programme Team. Working under supervision of Central Team’s programme managers to:

  • assist with delivery of the programme
  • maintaining archives
  • keep records and take notes of important meetings
  • take the lead on programme returns to London stakeholders
  • coordinating requests, queries, audits from London for programme information

Data management (20%)

Update/Revise/Maintain/Reformat database and functions in relation to information management priorities, ensuring that Central Team colleagues and thematic teams have access to relevant information.

Coordination of events: (20%)

Working with Central Team programme managers and thematic teams to organise Prosperity Fund visits/conferences/training workshops.  Being the first point of contact and lead on visitor’s programmes.

This is a fixed-term role until 31 March 2020, with possibility of renewal subject to confirmation of future funding.

We offer a competitive package, which includes basic salary, good leave entitlement, and insurance plan, etc. The gross salary (before all deductions) is CNY 10,548 month for Chinese Nationals and an abated monthly salary of CNY 14,776/ month for British Nationals and spouses/ partners (all nationalities) of diplomats who are ‘W’ (diplomatic) visa holders and meet passport criteria.

We also offer excellent development opportunities and a 22-day annual leave entitlement in pro rata.

Conditioned working hours is 35 hours/ week from Monday to Friday. Flexible working is possible so long as core hours are observed and / or by separate agreement with the Minister Counsellor.
