Main purpose of job: 

To support the Defence Section by organising and facilitating the deployment of personnel involved in Defence Engagement and ensuring the smooth day to day running of the office and visit programmes.

Roles and Responsibilities:

The main duties will include:

  • The production of routine Defence Section correspondence.
  • Managing Defence Section electronic diary.
  • Compiling visit programmes.
  • Discrete information handling and data base management as directed by the Defence Adviser.
  • Collating and analysing data, compiling briefs and reports.
  • The co-ordination of all travel and meetings for the Defence Adviser and visitors from MOD, including transport bookings.
  • Assist with the flight bookings and associated travel and accommodation arrangements for Bangladesh military personnel attending courses in the UK and elsewhere as part of the Defence Relations Activity Programme.
  • The provision of social secretarial duties, writing of invitation cards and compilation of guest lists and collation of replies.
  • Maintaining an electronic and paper filing system; archives; and scanning appropriate documentation.
  • In the absence of the Defence Section Support Officer, running the DIPCLEAR programme for all RAF flights entering/departing Bangladesh.
  • Providing cover for the Defence Section Support Officer during leave periods, including compiling monthly financial returns.
  • Any other appropriate duties as detailed by the Defence Adviser or Defence Section support Officer.
  • Support Defence Section activities outside of normal working hours as and when required (infrequent).
  • Support UK defence sales and Bangladesh military tendering opportunities, working with DIT.

What we want from you? 

The successful candidate will be someone who:

  • Meets the mandatory ‘Five Eyes’ security clearance checks to operate in a confidential area.
  • Has, preferably, previous knowledge or experience of working within a military environment.
  • Has an excellent command of written and spoken English.
  • Has good IT skills and is competent in working with Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Uses initiative.
  • Can plan and prioritize effectively.
  • Organises own work and files methodically.
  • Is able to work well as part of a small team.
  • Has protocol awareness.
  • Has understanding of analysis of information from multiple sources to produce recommendations.
  • Is prepared to do other work in support of the British High Commission.

EDUCATION:

Minimum of GCSE education or equivalent and proven competency in IT.

EXPERIENCE:
