View Vacancy - Driver / Maintenance Assistant (NOR18.184)
The British Embassy in Oslo is part of the United Kingdom's world-wide diplomatic network, and represents British political, economic and consular interests in Norway. The embassy is looking for a Driver / Maintenance Assistant.
The main purpose of the job is driving (when required) for British Ambassador, visiting UK officials, local deliveries and collections and simple property repairs and maintenance (including physical labour, e.g.: furniture re-arrangement).
Main Duties / Responsibilities
Official Driving Duties (Job share) (50%):
- Driving British Ambassador to and from venues;
- Driving visiting UK officials;
- Ensuring the roadworthiness and cleanliness of vehicles so they are fit for purpose.
Driver / Maintenance Assistant (50%):
- Simple property repairs and maintenance which may include painting and furniture assembly; Physical labour tasks such as furniture removal and arranging;
- General deliveries and collections around Oslo area;
- Carrying out some regular Health and Safety checks around the estate.
- Clean driving licence and at least 3 years of driving experience;
- At least 2 years of Estates Maintence experience or sufficient skills to carry out basic property repairs and maintenance;
- Physically able to lift and carry items, climb and work from step ladders;
- Skilled in the use of hand tools and hand power tools;
- Intermediate level of spoken and written Norwegian and English;
- Good communication skills and able to communicate courteously;
- Good organizational skills;
- Basic IT skills sufficient to communicate using the email system;
- Able to work flexible hours and occasional overtime;
- Able to successfully undergo a rigorous background check.
- Advanced, defensive and winter driving qualifications and experience will be a considerable advantage.
Terms and Conditions
This is a full-time permanent contract for 5 working days (currently 35 hours net) per week.
The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check, security clearance and 6 months probation period.
Employees recruited locally by the British Embassy Oslo are subject to terms and conditions of service in accordance with Norwegian employment law.
