Main purpose of job:  

The successful candidate will deliver project activity related to developing civilian counter terrorism capability in Pakistan and will provide political reporting and analysis on terrorism related issues. You will work closely to support the work of the political section, including through reading widely, analysing media and drawing on relevant expertise to inform reporting and analysis. You will play a leading role in the coordination of project related activity and in the delivery of visits. You will also support the day to day running of the team, through management of contacts, travel and networking events.

You will be managed by the Second Secretary Political. You will work primarily with the Counter Terrorism and Counter Extremism team based in Islamabad and also with policy leads and fund managers based in London.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Deliver regular updates on terrorism related issues in Pakistan.
  • Attend and report on conferences and public events relating to terrorism in Pakistan.
  • Support the wider political team and other sections in the mission by providing informed, timely and strategically aware analysis on terrorism issues.

Project management

  • Oversee CT project work, including working with political section to deliver visits of the Prime Minister’s civilian CT envoy and visits of specialists to Pakistan to support project work.
  • Support travel and engagement of political team to meet requirements of project work, including in promoting aviation security and CT capability.
  • Ensure effective budget management, contact management and delivery of events to support project work.

Team support

  • Organise, accompany and support senior staff on visits and produce timely and informative records of meetings.
  • Co-ordinate events (receptions, dinners) to inform understanding on terrorism, including compiling guest lists, overseeing administration to ensure success and on occasion attending to provide support.
  • Oversee contacts database for CT/CE team to ensure all information is up to date and used in event planning.

Other skills / experience / qualifications:

Essential:

  • Knowledge of Pakistani politics, state institutions (particularly the House and the Senate) and key influencers.
  • A Bachelors degree; ideally in International Relations or similar.
  • A proactive dynamic individual with a can-do attitude, who works well in a team.
  • Be well organised and able to demonstrate flexibility.
  • Have strong computer skills (particularly MS Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Have a high standard of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to think creatively to solve problems, sometimes under pressure and multi-task.
  • Have a track record in managing and prioritising your workload.
  • Confidence and commitment to deliver with minimal supervision.

Desirable: Experience of working on terrorism and security issues.

Language requirements:

Language: English and Urdu.

Level of language required: Exceptional command of written and spoken English and Urdu.

Salary Details:

For BHC candidates, the Local BHC Terms & Conditions will apply.

For other than BHC candidates, Basic Salary will be ­­­­­­PKR 125,432 per month.

Working patterns:

 It is a full-time position based in Islamabad but with occasional travel to other parts of the country required.
