Main purpose of job:

Would you like the opportunity to work as part of a team dedicated to promote everything that is GREAT about the UK in Mexico and be a key element in the delivery of the British Embassy’s biggest GREAT project this financial year?

Background of the project

  • Mexico City’s metro system launched an “Emblematic Stations” initiative, a project to brand its more iconic stations with diverse topics, such as Mexican composers, sports and culture.
  • The UK has been the first country officially approached and offered to be part of this initiative. This is a UKMX Dual Year 2015 idea that was revisited last year by the Mexican and UK Governments. Now the ministries involved have expressed support and approval.
  • This year, the London Underground celebrates its 155th anniversary, while Mexico’s Metro System will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2019. The London Underground is an extremely popular and iconic brand around the world.

‘UK in Auditorio’ metro station

The GREAT Britain campaign will brand a 3,000 m2 area of one of Mexico City’s most important metro stations: Auditorio. Through a groundbreaking makeover of this station, we want to transport Mexicans to the UK. An exciting journey that invites the Mexican public to learn more about the UK in a series of areas, demonstrating why it is the most creative and innovative country in the world. The objectives will be focused on:

  • Creativity: Position the UK as the most innovative and creative country in the world, promoting British leadership in culture and creative industries.
  • Education: Strengthen the perception of the UK as the best place for Mexican students to study abroad.
  • Tourism: Showcase every nation of the UK (England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland) to encourage more Mexicans to travel not just to London.
  • Technology & Innovation: Create awareness of the UK’s world-class technology and innovation through the promotion of our Prosperity Fund work on mobility and future cities.
  • Business (Trade and Investment): Showcase British brands’ products and services, and inspire Mexican companies to set up their business in the UK.

GREAT Challenge Fund

  • The GREAT Challenge Fund (GCF) is a UK Government mechanism that provides funding to UK government departments to exploit opportunities that will generate growth for Britain by creating more jobs, attracting more students, tourists and investors to the UK and increasing British exports, as well as amplifying the UK’s influence by the use of British soft power.
  • Every year, Department for International Trade (DIT) teams based in British Embassies and Consulates around the world, often working in conjunction with other UK government departments, submit innovative and creative bids to the GCF. In previous opportunities, the British Embassy in Mexico City has been awarded funding from the GCF for diverse projects focused on music, innovation and sports.
  • This year, the GCF has agreed to allocate £200,000 for this project. This budget must deliver a series of strict deliverables and KPIs in a specific timeframe.

Therefore, the British Embassy in Mexico is recruiting a temporary (six months) GREAT Metro Project Assistant.
