The British Embassy in Prague is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. We are currently seeking to recruit a Senior Trade Adviser to join the Department for International Trade team.

The successful jobholder will help British infrastructure companies access high value business opportunities in Czech Republic and Central Europe. He/She will contribute to ambitious local and regional performance targets, unlock commercial opportunities for UK businesses and work closely with senior stakeholders in the UK, relevant Embassy teams as well as local Czech contacts to promote UK excellence in delivering complex infrastructure / engineering propjects.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Proactively identify opportunities for UK companies across a broadly defined infrastructure / engineering segment (construction, rail, aviation) in the Czech Republic and promote them with the relevant UK audience (companies & business organizations); Match the UK offering to local market opportunity to help optimise UK business and deliver commercial outcomes
  • Represent DIT Prague in relevant European and regional trade campaigns (incl. Infrastructure and Clean Growth) and Support the Regional Infrastructure sector lead to deliver high value Export Wins for UK companies; As the Infrastructure Lead; to continuously manage the Czech pipeline and support the leader of the Central European Network’s infrastructure high value regional campaign in delivering the campaign targets, including regional campaign activities (buyer recruitment, project and event management, responding to enquiries, liaising with stakeholders);
  • Monitor relevant regulatory and policy developments in Czech Republic, EU and the UK to effectively identify opportunities and address emerging market barriers for UK business; gather market information and monitor trends, to be used for client enquiries, sector reports, briefings, chargeable services and Export Opportunities;
  • Build government and industry stakeholder partnerships to promote UK capabilities, experience and excellence to relevant Czech stakeholders; manage strategic relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders including decision makers, UK Key Accounts and local companies;
  • Manage project delivery of promotional and follow up activities to meet annual performance targets
  • To perform and record administrative duties on time, in a proper manner, according to DIT and Post requirements and systems in use.
  • Co-operate closely with other Embassy teams, relevant external stakeholders and DIT colleagues across the CEN region and actively contribute to relevant high level/VIP visit programmes.

  • Strong track record of business development/sales experience, proven market awareness of the national and regional business environment;
  • Experience in the infrastructure and/or rail sectors or related fields;
  • Ability to work in a diverse and cross-cultural environment;
  • College / University level degree in a relevant area or equivalent experience;
  • At least 3 years of commercial activity;
  • A record of delivering commercial outcomes;
  • Commercial and economic awareness;
  • An innovative attitude especially towards customer service and performance management;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Proven ability to develop relationships with customers and stakeholders;
  • Fluency in English and Czech, both oral and written;
  • Strong IT skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Office and the Internet.
  • Understanding of the role of international trade in business success.
  • Working cooperatively with others.
  • Attention to detail and effective time management.
  • Proactive attitude in project and relationship management;
  • Track record of delivering projects in virtual/regional teams.

This is a full-time position, fixed-term contract of 2 years.
