The British Embassy in Rabat is seeking a hard working team player to take up the position of Security Assistant for Protect and Prepare grade A2 (L).

Main purpose of the job:

This position will form part of the UK’s enhancement of its protective security cooperation with Morocco. Working with a team of security specialists from across UK Government, the role will support the British Embassy’s Security platform and ensure all activity is aligned to UK strategic aims.

This is a busy and interesting role in the Embassy, which we are looking to fill with an individual who is a team player and willing to adapt to the requirements of the position.

The successful candidate must have an eye for detail, be flexible and well organised, to balance the dynamic needs of the team, while maintaining accurate records. There is a requirement for occasional travel within Morocco (which may entail weekend or evening working or overnight stays for training events).

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Support the organisation of Protect and Prepare training and events as part of the UK’s protective security programme, including making any travel arrangements required by trainers or participants such as, arranging visas, travel and accommodation bookings.
  • Support management of the Protect and Prepare programme, ensuring that effective monitoring and evaluation techniques are used following project implementation, in line with the UK government’s project management guidelines. Also carry out tasks relating to Protect and Prepare budget management, including monthly forecasting and maintaining accurate records of financial expenditure. 
  • Liaise with other Embassy staff and external contacts, including international local civil society and government counterparts, in arranging and attending meetings with members of the security team. Draft minutes and detail any agreed actions, as necessary.
  • Monitor media outlets, including social media, and record any key facts relating to counter terrorism in Morocco, such as details of any cell dismantlement. Keep filing systems up to date, including a contacts database, ensuring relevant background documents are archived on Microsoft Teams.
  • Carry out administrative tasks, such as responding to telephone and email enquiries, dealing with stationery requests etc.

The above list is not exhaustive and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required. The job description may be reviewed to meet changes in business needs.

  • Collaborative approach to colleagues and stakeholder partnerships. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to develop and maintain a range of contacts and to build effective working relationships.
  • Has initiative, adaptable and the ability to work flexibly both in a small team and individually with autonomy, and able to adapt to new ways of working.
  • Very good level of IT skills and literacy in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
  • Experience working with an international institution.
  • An understanding of counter-terrorism activity and security arrangements.

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including a non negotiable gross salary of MAD 14,385 per month, inclusive of all allowances. However, employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary may have their salaries reduced by the equivalent local income tax amount. The package includes a good level of medical insurance, 21 days of annual leave per annum (on pro rata basis) plus 14 public holidays, access to on-site swimming pool, tennis court and gym facilities.

There are no other allowances payable as part of this package. No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

The contract will be for a full-time employment, on a fixed term basis for 6 months with an option to extend.

Conditioned working hours for the position are 38 hours per week Monday to Friday. Normal office hours (Mon-Thu 0800-1615, Fri 0800-1300). The Embassy encourages flexible working subject to operational need and line manager’s approval. Independent working will be tested as a competence in interviews.

The Embassy has a strong commitment to learning and development and all staff are required to agree a learning and development plan with their line manager.
