Consular

Main purpose of job:

Support the Consular team in delivering excellent frontline consular services and assistance to customers in person, via telephone and e-mail, and on visits across Mexico.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Accompany consular officers to meetings with Mexican Government officials, British ex-pat community and other important stakeholders, in Mexico City and possibly beyond – an opportunity to improve your information gathering and negotiation skills.
  • Help identify and facilitate contact with consular stakeholders across the country – an opportunity to increase your networking skills.
  • Help maintain clear, accurate, transparent and auditable files and records of all financial transactions for consular services, raising concerns with line management chain where appropriate – an opportunity to learn about financial management and budget holding.
  • Create and maintain lists of Mexican and international contacts for the Section, and join consular officers on meetings with them – an opportunity to broaden your horizons and professional network.
  • Create and maintain a database of contacts such as NGOs, charities, shelters – an opportunity to improve your writing and presentation skills.
  • Work closely with other sections of the Embassy on Crisis Response Plan and Consular Contingency Planning – an opportunity to learn about strategic thinking and planning.
  • Raise the Consular Section's and the Embassy's profiles by proactively engaging with the wider FCO audience in corporate affairs – an opportunity to start building your professional reputation.
  • All employees in the Embassy network are expected, as part of their job to contribute towards the corporate activity organisation.

  • Good communication skills in English and Spanish.
  • Good drafting skills in English and Spanish.
  • Student or recent graduate of university studies in International Relations, Law, Communications, Social Work or related subject.
  • Experience with Mac iOs applications and operating system.
  • Experience using social media on behalf of an organisation (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook).
