Science and Innovation

Main purpose of job:

To lead on science and innovation collaboration between the UK and Peru, using the Newton Fund. To define and oversee delivery of the Newton-Fund programme with a new focus on tackling global issues and delivering inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

 

Roles and responsibilities:

The job holder will: 

-          Lead on the design and oversee delivery of the Newton Fund programme in Peru, including:

  • Promoting the fund and spotting opportunities for UK/Peru collaboration
  • Securing funding
  • Liaising with UK and Peruvian stakeholders and delivery partners, including UK Department for Business Enterprise and Industrial Strategy, UK FCO, Ministry of Economy, CONCYTEC, PRODUCE, British Council and UK Research Councils
  • Measuring impact
  • Reporting to London
  • Ensuring Newton Fund activity is co-ordinated with wider BE Lima efforts to deliver inclusive and sustainable economic growth in Peru

-          Line manage a Newton-Fund coordinator (not yet appointed).

-          Engage on broader UK/Peru science and innovation collaboration, deepening the network of embassy contacts and supporting relationships between UK and Peruvian universities and research institutes.

-          Assist colleagues within the Economic Development team and other Embassy sections in times of peak activity.

 

Work experience in science/innovation/development issues. Programme and Project Management experience. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills. An ability to work independently and show initiative.
The ideal candidate would have a degree level qualification and work experience in science/innovation, development or related subjects. He/she would already have a strong network of key Peruvian (and UK) science and innovation stakeholders and knowledge about the UK’s strengths in science and innovation.
