Main purpose of job : 

To help the UK achieve its trade objectives in a way that supports our long term prosperity agenda, including through inclusive growth and economic development in Pakistan. As a key member of the UK trade team in Pakistan, you will help deliver our regional and country business/ trade policy plans. You will also build a strong and extensive relationship network to promote credible, export ready UK companies to achieve more business in this exciting growing market. You will support a range of activities that will give you the opportunity to travel internally and internationally. DIT Pakistan is a small, highly motivated (and friendly!) team based in Karachi, Islamabad and Lahore, reporting to the Director of Trade in Karachi.

Roles and responsibilities :

You will be a key member of the DIT team in Pakistan with a focus on a) UK priority sectors for Pakistan; b) managing enquiries from UK companies and c) identifying and exploring opportunities for UK companies in Pakistan. You will:

  1. Contribute to the analysis of key market sectors in Pakistan, assessing the UK’s comparative advantage.
  2. Establish relationships with key stakeholders, locally and internationally. You will have the opportunity to travel to attend Trade events and trainings in the UK and Middle East.
  3. Support the Pakistan Trade Team to deliver the full range of its work, including providing key points and business specific information to be included in briefs for senior visitors, events and business planning material.
  4. Work closely with senior colleagues to contribute to the Prosperity strategy for longer term activities to improve the business environment in Pakistan.
  5. Work with the Communications team to ensure trade activities receive appropriate coverage. Liaise with government departments, chambers of commerce, associations and local companies to share information about recent developments and inform UK companies of opportunities. Be the lead on DIT branding.
  6. Need to be flexible and able to multi-task effectively. This role is ideal for a highly organised self-starter, who thrives in a busy but friendly team.

Qualifications : Graduate

Education :

  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant commercial/business experience and detailed understanding of the Pakistan business environment
  • A strong cross sector network in Karachi and Sindh as a whole.
  • Strong track record of being an effective team player including interacting with senior stakeholders in government and business.
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical and drafting skills.

Language requirements:

Language: English

Level of language required: Fluent in spoken and written English.


  • Experience of working with UK or international companies.
  • Some experience of working with Pakistan government
  • Presentation skills
  • Experience of working as part of a virtual team.

Salary Details:

For BHC candidates, the Local BHC Terms & Conditions will apply.

For other than BHC candidates, Basic Salary will be ­­­­­­PKR 133,046 per month.

You will be required to support activities outside of normal working hours and to travel when needed predominantly within Pakistan but also overseas.

Some late finishes will be necessary due to evening events.
