The jobholder will develop and implement the Malaysian Defence and Security export campaign for the UK.

The jobholder will be expected to -

  • Develop and implement the  Malaysian Defence and Security campaign, in order to deliver high-value exports for the UK.
  • Develop and maintain a strong network of contacts across relevant parts of the Malaysian Government, including MinDef (military and civilian), Home Affairs, the Police, Customs, MMEA and ESSCOM.
  • Develop and maintain a strong network of contacts across relevant parts of the Malaysian industry that deliver Defence and Public Security products/services to the Government.
  • Maintain knowledge of key players, trends, opportunities and challenges in the Defence & Security sectors in Malaysia, and use this knowledge to advise British businesses on how to do business successfully in Malaysia.
  • Organise events to promote UK defence/security expertise.
  • Manage the UK’s participation in Defence exhibitions in Malaysia (DSA and LIMA).
  • Manage the Malaysian delegation’s visits to British defence exhibitions (Farnborough Air Show and DSEI).
  • Write briefs for visiting UK Ministers and senior officials and organise and manage complex visit programmes.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in the High Commission, London and British industry to ensure DIT Malaysia achieves maximum benefit for the UK.

This is a challenging role, working with the First Secretary Defence & Security in the High Commission, to deliver ambitious targets.

 

  • Experience of working in the Malaysian defence and/or public security sectors (Government or industry).
  • Good IT skills and proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Must be able to meet and demonstrate strengths in the following competences:

  • Good written and spoken Bahasa.

  • Knowledge of defence, security and cyber technologies.

This position is being advertised on a 3-year fixed term contract with an option to extend for a further 2 years.

The British High Commission offers a competitive remuneration package, benefits, leave entitlement of 20 days per annum (calculated on pro rata basis) and extensive Learning and Development opportunities. Specific training and mentoring will be provided to successful candidate including induction and developing sector knowledge.

No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position. You must have or be able to obtain local work permit in Malaysia in order to apply.
