View Vacancy - KWT - Project Officer (EO)
The British Embassy in Kuwait is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual for the position of Project Officer, job grade Executive Officer (EO) on a part-time, fixed term contract until 31st March 2025.
This is an exciting position leading the programme design and management of UK programming in Kuwait, primarily through the Gulf Strategy Fund. You will be based in the Embassy’s Political and Programming section, and will be at the heart of the Embassy’s programme work which helpto deliver UK policy objectives in Kuwait. You will lead the delivery of UK programmes to strengthen UK/Kuwait bilateral relationship in areas including (but not limited to) economics, prosperity, cyber security, gender and trade.
This role will entail some flexibility, with the officer supporting wider Section and Embassy pressures as necessary
Roles and responsibilities:
Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?
- Programme management of the UK’s Kuwait programmes. This includes management of the implementing partners and wider stakeholders, monitoring and evaluation, budget scrutiny, and financial reporting.
- Proactively develop t and design future programmes.
- Management of relevant programme budgets.
- Work with the Communications Team to highlight what projects we are delivering and showcase how the Embassy is delivering change.
- Develop an excellent network with the wider British Embassy Team, the wider Gulf network, the Head of the UK Gulf Science and Innovation Network, the British Council and other partners on related projects.
- To ensure all activity complies with the FCDO Programme Operating Framework.
- Support monitoring the delegated programme budget, maintaining accurate records on project allocations, monthly and forecasted spend.
Resources managed.
- Managing implementing partners and a significant portion of FCDO programme funds in Kuwait
The above list is not exhaustive, and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and to take on other duties, projects, and ad hoc tasks as required. The jobholder will also be expected to play a full role in the Embassy’s contingency planning and any crisis response.

Eligibility:
If you are selected for this position, we will be able to employ you as long as you:
- Are legally resident in Kuwait (Please note that it is your responsibility to ensure you meet the legal requirements to live and work in this country); and
- Complete and successfully pass all local and UK security checks, including professional background checks.
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written) in English
- University-educated
- Experience of programme/project management. (Minimum 2 years of work experience in a relevant field)
- Highly organised, with a track record as a team player and able to work in a diverse, high-performing environment
- Track record of successfully delivering programmes and/or projects in the international context, preferably in a bilateral or multilateral agency
- Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to build productive working relations with project implementers and wider stakeholders
- The ability to confidently brief the senior management team within the Embassy and in London
- Numerate, with experience of working with financial information, including budgeting and forecasting
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office packages
- Experience or knowledge of Kuwaiti Politics, Human Rights, Economic or scientific policies.
- A network of Government and/or business contacts that they can utilise.
Working conditions and remuneration:
This position is a part-time position, 17 hrs 45 mins per week.
The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including a non-negotiable gross salary of KWD 556.050 per month. The package includes a good level of medical insurance, a return flight fare to your home country for non-Kuwaitis every two years, relevant social security payments for Kuwaiti nationals, and an engaging working environment. Leave entitlement is 30 days per year (on pro rata basis) plus 14 public holidays.
There are no other allowances payable as part of this package. No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.
This position is for a part-time, fixed term contract until 31st March 2025, subject to a 90-working day probationary period.
The normal working hours are 07:30 – 15:30 from Sunday to Wednesday and 07:30 – 13:30 on Thursday. Due to the nature of the work, the jobholder should be flexible in their approach to hours worked as these will be dictated by operational needs and may involve working out-of-hours (evening / weekend)
The Embassy has an active Continuous Professional Development Committee, and the whole of Post is committed to providing the time and resources for staff to develop professionally. The 70/20/10 learning, and development model is applied in a flexible manner, with both internal and formal opportunities readily available. There will likely be an expectation of undertaking training specific to crisis response/management in 2024.

Process:
The recruitment process, including security clearance, is expected to take around two-three months. The security clearance process includes checks available in country and with UK, dependant on the security level required for the role and the candidates profile and UK footprint. You may experience some delay in the progress of this recruitment campaign, and we are working hard to minimise any disruption.
Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful at interview may be placed on a ‘reserve list’. If during the reserve period of six (6) months the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.
