The British Embassy in Ankara is part of a world-wide network representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas as is now looking to hire an Administrative Officer for the Home Office International Operations. (HOIO).

The purpose of this role is to provide flexible, administrative and logistical support and local advice to the HOIO home office international operations network in Turkiye through linguistic skills. Success will be measured by assisting delivery on HOIO programmes and priority threat areas, including commodity and irregular migration. The role will require assisting office and project administration, coordination of logistics and expense management as well as supporting the HOIO Team with building skills and knowledge on key areas, and facilitating excellent bilateral cooperation with partners in host law enforcement and judiciary. Sound strategic knowledge of programme and project delivery and issues relating to border security and migration into and through Turkiye will be expected to be developed. Practical support to HOIO Team will also be required in the form of administrative, written and linguistic duties.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support to the HOIO Team as required, particularly on expenses, payments and organisation of official visits and project events. Maintain project filing system that is thorough, retrievable and auditable. Supply logistical support for visiting officers, and assist visits by Turkish officers to the UK;
  • Translation of official documents,  and provide interpretive support at meetings and other engagements when needed;
  • Regular meetings with hosts throughout Turkiye, particularly within Ankara and Istanbul; 
  • Make enquiries and exchange information with host law enforcement agencies in response to incoming information and ongoing joint co-operation. Liaise with partners across government within the British Embassy (Ankara). Consulate (Istanbul), general Mission staff and foreign law enforcement liaison officers;
  • Undertake open source research, checks and development on intelligence received from HOIO and hosts on priority threat areas. Develop in-depth strategic and tactical knowledge of these. Develop in-depth knowledge of Turkish legislation surrounding border management issues and migration;
  • Support Programme and Project Management and delivery




  • Excellent command (both oral and written) of English and Turkish, Common European Framework level/equivalent C1 or above*;
  • Previous working experience with Turkish law enforcement agencies
  • Basic financial office management experience e.g. tracking, recording and archiving of invoices etc. 
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines and find flexible innovative solutions
  • Ability to regularly travel and attend meetings in Turkiye and Europe, often at short notice
  • Strong administrative and IT skills (including MS Office and Excel)

                               

                               

  • Previous working experience in international projects/ programmes (e.g. EU, UN, FCDO or other multinational stakeholders)
  • Master's degree in relevant subject area

This is a full-time permanent position for 5 working days (36.25 hours net) per week.

The monthly salary for this position is 1,447 USD gross AO level. Please note that staff members are responsible for paying any income tax required by local law.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check, security clearance and a probation period of 2 months.
