View Vacancy - HOUSEKEEPER/COOK – BELMOPAN
Main purpose of job:
Offer a high quality service to the High Commissioner, guests and visitors at the High Commission Residence by providing and maintaining a high standard of cooking, housekeeping and laundry services; and supporting official functions as required including catering and serving meals and drinks.
Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:
Responsible for the overall cleanliness of the High Commission Residence, including the High Commissioner’s private living areas, entertaining spaces, guest rooms and service areas to an excellent standard including:
- Ensure high quality cleaning: dust, sweep, mop floors/polish all surfaces/clean glass surfaces/polish silverware
- Provide full laundry service: washing/ironing /arranging dry cleaning/minor repairs
- Plan, cook and serve meals, liaising with the High Commissioner
- Perform weekly fire / incident alarm test
- Maintain inventories of linen and kitchen equipment
- Report maintenance issues and safety and security hazards and ensure all maintenance jobs are attended in coordination with the Estate Department
- Ensure high standard of hygiene and food safety in food storage and preparation
- Ensure care and maintenance of all kitchen equipment
- Escort workmen around the Residence to ensure safety of assets
Events / Visits:
- Prepare events meal budgets.
- Set tables to a high standard.
- Prepare meals for events and official functions
- Provide waiting service at official functions
- Prepare floral arrangements for dinner functions
- Prepare beverages and serve / set up bar for official entertainment.
- Tidy up and after official functions and events
Ad hoc:
- Ad hoc office support – e.g. crisis management, visits.
- Attend staff meetings e.g. weekly staff meetings, Post Management Committees etc
- To take on work of the Senior Housekeeper as required when she is on leave or ill.
- Work evenings and weekends to deliver official functions or when official guests stay at the Residence.
Essential on arrival:
- Have good communication skills and a good command of the English language - both oral and written;
- At least 2 years’ work experience in the hospitality industry;
- Maintain a customer focus approach;
- Willing to take initiative and to be flexible and proactive ("Can do" attitude);
- Able to effectively prioritise and have a proven ability to work under pressure with limited supervision
- Able to work effectively and supportively with colleagues, both individually and in a team;
- Able to act with discretion at all times;
- Have good IT Skills – familiar with Microsoft Office (Word, outlook, excel);
- Have a positive outlook;
- Keen attention to detail.
Must have the legal status to live and work in Belize.
Desirable:
- Previous relevant working experience in a hotel, diplomatic residence or equivalent;
- Experience in maintaining inventories.
Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
The job requires some flexibility and some morning, evening and weekend work when there is a function or guests staying.
