The British Embassy in Berne is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a Head Chef.

The successful candidate will be responsible to lead catering for events and official hospitality in the Residence, producing high quality food and managing all aspects of the Residence kitchen.

 Roles and responsibilities:

Producing high quality, sophisticated and innovative dishes for Residence events, including regular dinners and lunches, large “long table” evening dinners and breakfasts. Managing the food orders and wine cellar, and keeping the kitchen well maintained.

Event management and production of top quality food /canapés for large events (e.g. Queen’s Birthday Party for 500 people, large scale receptions), recruiting extra kitchen staff and planning the catering and layout of the event.

 Making sure the Residence complies with food safety standards and the Property Compliance Report.
Managing the Residence accounts and budget (Credit card, Residence imprest, cash).

Proficiency in German and basic English (both oral and written);

Ability to demonstrate chef skills to the highest level, and ability to create new and exciting dishes;

 Experience in event delivery and/or management;

 Excellent kitchen management and food hygiene control;

 Excellent organisational and planning skills;

 Excellent communication skills;

 Good IT skills (Microsoft Office).

Previous experience in a top restaurant or similar environment.

This is a permanent, full-time contract, working from Monday to Friday and occasionally on weekends.

The Embassy offers 25 annual leave days and 14 public holidays per year.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background and security clearance.

The successful candidate must have pre-existing work authorisation for Switzerland in order to apply.
