Main purpose of job
Leading for the UK in Zimbabwe on managing and delivering a specific strand of projects, you will work closely with the Programme Delivery Officer in Pretoria, and some great colleagues across the continent and in the UK. You will be the link between programme implementers, the Zimbabwean Government, and the UK, providing the strategic and operational advice that the Programme Delivery Officer needs. As you strengthen and build your networks in Zimbabwe and around the region, you’ll be helping the UK achieve one of its most important objectives, with the senior attention that brings.
Roles and responsibilities
You will balance project management responsibilities with providing Programme Manager with strategic support. This will require an incumbent who is a self starter, able to work flexibly, and also able to prioritise workloads in order to achieve outcomes in a busy and challenging environment. You will cover for other members of staff in other locations while they are out of the office.
Programme and Project Management
You will be expected to deliver a number of separate but co-ordinated projects, ensuring agreed outcomes are delivered in accordance with UK Government financial and project management principals and guidelines. You will be expected to ensure that project activities and outputs are delivered in line with agreed activity based budgets, that project delivery is effectively monitored, risks are adequately captured and mitigated, and that project activities represent value for money. You will be expected to report regularly to colleagues within the Embassy and to Home Office and FCO officials in London on performance.
In co-ordination with Embassy colleagues including the Programme Delivery Officer you will also be expected to develop project bids for new projects for delivery across 2018/19 and further.
Engagement
You will be expected to develop and maintain productive working relationships with a range of Government, internal and external stakeholders, utilising these relationships to ensure the achievement of the UK Priority Agenda as well as project delivery.
Development
You will be responsible for your professional development, seeking and seizing opportunities that will enable you to carry out your role more effectively
Resources managed
The position does not have any direct line management responsibility. However you will have oversight of a significant project resource allocation. You will be responsible for sound financial management and oversight in line with UK best practice. You will have access to a travel and development budget to support delivery of your objectives and your personal development within the position.
Previous programme or project management and a proven track record of delivering successful projects in difficult environments. Any applicants who do not meet this requirement or are unable to provide evidence of how they meet this requirement in their application will not be shortlisted for interview.
Previous professional knowledge and work experience in an international environment, established networks in Zimbabwe.
