View Vacancy - JPN - Global Sports Liaison Officer A2(L)
Main purpose of job:
To work with the Senior Global Sports Liaison Officer and wider team to develop and strengthen relationships with key Japanese stakeholders including national and local governments, organising committees, sports organisations, businesses and universities together with Senior Global Sports Liaison Officer.
To provide advice and support to UK sports associations, sports teams and home nations rugby unions as necessary in their pre-competition preparations and in the run up to and during the game/tournament.
To provide wider team support of the Global Sports Team by performing, for example, certain administrative duties.
Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:
The job holder will sit within the ‘Sports’ pillar of the Global Sports Team and will be expected to:
- Work under the guidance of the Senior Global Sports Liaison Officer and Deputy Global Sports Attaché to help develop and strengthen relationships with key Japanese stakeholders, ensuring regular working level communication, fact-finding and information sharing. These stakeholders will include Host Town/City governments, training camp partners, accommodation facility owners and sports associations and bodies.
- Support the Senior Global Sports Liaison Officer to maintain a strong relationship with UK sports associations, rugby unions and sports teams. Understand their needs and work with the Global Sports Team to find solutions, deferring complex decisions and engagements to senior team members as and when appropriate.
- Perform and assist with preparatory work on pre-games/tournament and games time training camps, facilities and accommodation, as well as more specific and urgent requests from UK sports teams closer to and during the Global Sports events, in line with the level of support justifiable by the UK Government.
- Together with the Global Sports Team, help UK and Home Nations sports teams achieve their competition/tournament objectives and help build competitive advantages, by providing them with advice and solutions to issues they may have.
- Perform administrative duties for the Sports Pillar of the Global Sports Brief, and be prepared to provide additional administrative support to the wider Global Sports Team at times of need.
- Work with the Global Sports Team to use games-related networks and interact with host/city and provincial governments to look for wider opportunities across the full range of Embassy business, in support of the Japan Network’s objectives.
- Offer wider team support during visits, recces, events and other busy periods.
The duration of this position is until October 2020 on 1 year renewable contracts.
- Fluent Japanese (at least N1 Japanese Language Proficiency Test level).
- Fluent English with TOEIC score of 800 points or above.
- Experience engaging with Japanese stakeholders and maintaining strong relationships.
- Experience of handling a variety of stakeholders with complex requirements.
- Ability to handle conflicting requirements from multiple stakeholders, and to push back where necessary.
- Good interpersonal and organisation skills to conduct duties effectively.
- Flexible, dependable, enthusiastic and customer focused person that enjoys taking on challenging responsibilities.
- Experience in planning and logistics.
- Proven resilience working under pressure.
- IT skills including ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Strong interest in sports and global sports events.
- Experience working on high profile projects and events.
- Experience of working in an English-speaking environment.
- PRINCE2 training.
1 month salary bonus equivalents payable in June and December
- (Note: Salary may be reduced due to tax status)
- Commuting allowance of up to JPY35,000 per month (paid on an actual cost basis)
- 24 days paid annual leave (calculated pro rata)
