The British Embassy in Kazakhstan is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for an Assistant Trade & Investment Adviser, based in Atyrau

Integrated on the UK Trade & Investment Department, the commercial section of the British Embassy in Astana, the selected applicant will assist the Deputy Director in expanding the UK presence in the Kazakhstan Oil & Gas sector.

The main purpose of the job is to help organise commercial and VIP visits by UK companies and Government Ministers; provide logistical support to the Deputy Director and wider UKTI team and to develop and maintain local contacts in relevant state and private sector authorities, as well as private industry. 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the team in organising high-level visits and trade missions to Kazakhstan by HMG officials and UK companies;
  • Undertake tailored market research;
  • Organise commercial events and receptions;
  • Develop & maintain local contacts in government & business;
  • Deal with trade enquiries;
  • Collating statistics and contribute to reports and briefings;
  • Carry out a range of tasks, such as data entry and translations;
  • Support Deputy Head, Head of DIT & Ambassador directly on DIT work and in fulfilment of wider Embassy objectives, especially in areas near our commercial interests as required.

  • Degree in Engineer Petroleum  Engineering, Business Admin, Marketing or similar;
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in administrative roles, in organizing events and/or other similar roles;
  • Experience in the Oil & Gas industry;
  • Advanced level of English and Russian Language;
  • Good self-management and organisational skills;
  • IT Proficiency.
  • Good spoken and written Kazakh would be an asset.

This is a full-time position of five working days 36 hours net per week, excluding lunch hours, for an initial contract period of 12 months, which may be extended by mutual agreement. Salary will be USD 826 per calendar month (gross). A 13th month salary is payable at the end of the year. Please note that it is the employee’s responsibility to pay individual income tax.

Employees are entitled to 25 working days leave per calendar year at the beginning of service. In addition, the Embassy observes up to 14 days public holidays marking different Kazakh and UK holidays.

The Embassy provides medical insurance for employees and dependants.

All applicants should have the right to live and work in Kazakhstan. The British Embassy does not sponsor for work permits.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background and security clearance. The successful candidate must have pre-existing work authorisation for the Kazakhstan in order to apply.
