The UK Representation to the European Union (UKREP) in Brussels is part of a world-wide network of 230 Diplomatic Posts, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a full-time A1L JHA Business Support Assistant in the United Kingdom Representation to the European Union.

Justice and Home Affairs (JHA) Section at the UK Representation to the EU (UKREP) in Brussels is seeking a Business Support Assistant to provide administrative and policy support to the section. The dedicated, motivated and friendly team deals with high-profile and sensitive issues in the fields of judicial cooperation (civil, family and criminal law), immigration, asylum, counter‑terrorism, data protection and human rights.  This will be an office manager type role, focusing on administrative responsibilities, so you should be the sort of person that enjoys organisational work and administrative planning, though you may be occasionally required to help out on policy issues.

Main Duties / Responsibilities

Administrative support (95%) - to proactively provide effective business support to the UKREP Justice and Home Affairs section, such as:

  • Preparation of documents and logistics for JHA Councils, working groups and bilateral meetings;
  • Booking travel and meetings;
  • Overseeing section expenses and budgets;
  • Handling IT support requests;
  • Management of office supplies;
  • Organise high-level visits for Senior Officials;
  • Inputting into the continuous improvement of the JHA business support.

Policy Support (5%) - to provide policy support for the to the UKREP Justice and Home Affairs section, if needed:

  • Covering for desk officers where needed, including at the European Parliament and Council of the EU;
  • Providing timely and accurate reporting to London (particularly the Home Office, Ministry of Justice and Foreign and Commonwealth Office) and embassies worldwide;



    • Strong organisational skills, with proven organisational and administrative skills (e.g.: previous Office Manager experience);
    • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, etc.) is required;
    • Fluent English (spoken and written).
    • Intermediate French language skills (spoken and written).

    Terms and conditions

    This is a permanent full-time contract for 5 working days (36.25 hours net) per week. Although the appointment is for an indefinite period of time, it is expected that the overall period of service will most probably not exceed two years. This point will be addressed during the recruitment process.

    The monthly salary for this position is €2,630.18 A1 (L) level (The British Diplomatic Missions in Belgium salaries are not subject to annual indexation).

    Please note that Belgian nationals will be paid their salary gross and are expected to comply with their tax obligations through completion of a tax return to the Belgian authorities. Non-Belgian nationals will receive their salary net, minus the deduction of an equivalent level of Belgian tax retained at source. Further information on this will be given to candidates during the recruitment process.

    The successful candidates will be subject to professional background checks and security clearance.
